Kanesatake, Que. — Four police cars were set on fire early Friday in this troubled Mohawk community, Quebec provincial police said.

No immediate arrests were made.

Kanesatake has been in turmoil since January when Grand Chief James Gabriel brought in aboriginal police officers to help fight organized crime.

Mr. Gabriel's house was torched on Jan. 12. No one has been arrested in connection with the fire and he hasn't returned to Kanesatake to live, saying Quebec provincial police have made it clear they can't guarantee his safety.

In Quebec City, Public Security Minister Jacques Chagnon said provincial police were present to ensure security and investigate the fires.

Benoit Pelletier, minister responsible for aboriginal affairs, said there's “no easy solution, there's no miracle solution” for the settlement.

Mr. Pelletier also said Kanesatake's 1,200 residents have the right to participate in free and democratic elections.

They need JTF2 to go in there and whoop some ass.

If anybody else pulled the **** they do they would be locked up for life. But since they're natives they're above the law. It's bull sh*t.

Have you ever thought before talking Tucker?
All i see you do is complain.
Explain how the natives are "above" the law? Native reserves are under native law, not Canadian.

I don't care if they are under native law, if you torch four police cars, or burn down someones house you need to be delt with.

The police and provincial goverment are probably trying how to avoid another Oka crisis. Prudent move I think. And using JTF2, I think SCM you have been playing too many first person shooter games.

Jeez the kids in the town I used stay near over turned and set fire to a patrol car when the two officers went into a house to quell a domestic, the children were dancing round the blazing car whooping and cheering like natives. Why the need to bring in SF to just to calm down a bit public disorder thats a bit much. Any ways who guy in your avatar he looks a little uptight.

Obviously they wouldn't use JTF but someone needs to start whoopin' ass.

That could be it.

I hate to say it but this is becoming our own little backyard Balkans. Not because of ethnic cleansing or anything, but each solution seems to create ten new problems. It's a quagmire with no easy answers.

I was wrong, it's not our backyard Balkans, it's our hydra!
