VBS1™ is a fully interactive, three-dimensional training system providing a premium synthetic environment in which team members may practice small unit tactics. Photo-realistic terrain, user-definable mission scenarios, customized vehicles and equipment, and variable environmental conditions enhance the team training experience. After-action review support assists the training facilitator in assessing the team’s performance and in promoting continuous process improvement.

VBS1™ offers realistic battlefield simulations and the ability to operate a myriad of land, sea, and air vehicles across vast outdoor terrains. Instructors may create virtually any imaginable scenario and then engage the simulation from multiple viewpoints. The advanced squad-management system enables participants to efficiently issue orders to squad members as well as coordinate both lethal and non-lethal tasks. VBS1™ allows free play within scenario-based training missions. It also incorporates real-time simulation of wind, rain, fog, clouds, time-of-day, sunrise and sunset, and tides.

VBS1™ is based on the commercial gaming engine known as Real Virtuality™ created by Bohemia Interactive Studios. It can be specifically tailored to meet the individual needs of military, law enforcement, homeland defense, and first responder training environments. VBS1™ can be easily deployed on laptops or desktops or through the Internet, delivering cost-effective solutions for worldwide interactive training. VBS1™ is not intended for entertainment purposes and is available only to federal, state, and local government agencies for military, law enforcement, homeland defense, and first responder training.

VBS1™ may be used to teach doctrine, tactics, techniques, and procedures during squad and platoon offensive, defensive, and patrolling operations. It may also be used to teach and rehearse security emergency response procedures in lethal and non-lethal environments. VBS1™ delivers a synthetic environment for the practical exercise of the leadership and organizational behavior skills required to successfully execute small unit missions.

It won't help you if it's on the net, because you need an usb-key to play it.

And from what the developpers said on the official forums and from what you can see on the screenshots VBS 1 isn't really better than OFP1 with its large addon/mod-community. So fi you want such a military simulation don't throw 150-550 bucks out of the window, but buy ofp and try all those priceless but high-quality addons. :D

Only for Australian's, and it will cost about $500 AU all up, so you blokes should forget about it, and wait for OFP 2... since all this really is, is Operation Flashpoint, with a few more fancy Addons, heh.

btw. How many OFP's are there + add-ons???

EDIT:
OFP 2
Me being a great fan of the Operation Flashpoint series have been hugely anticipating this game. It is set in many different theatre's of war in the later part of the 20th century ranging from Asia, Africa and Europe. The thing I love about The Operation Flashpoint games is the freedom they allow and the ability to control practically any vehicle you wish. This does not lack in Operation 2 allowing you to drive, and fly many of the different vehicle's that were used during the different conflicts. Operation Flashpoint also use's the same VBS tactical trainer used by the U.S. Marine Corps and other military organisations. Operation Flashpoint will be literally as close to war as you want to get. It will contain Domesticated Animals and Wild Animals, the terrain will be ultra realistic, the graphics will be photo-realsitc and the vehicles will be extremely detailed. The player will also be able to control more troops than in operation flashpoint and it will introduce even more tactical commands. This game will be a truly spectacular game and will be the closest to war you want to get. It should be available in winter of 2004 or early 2005. Enjoy!! From a review at Amazon.co.uk

Note the VBS Trainer...guess OFP has got the realistic part to it. Since the VBS is a part of the engine. Guess no point of buying VBS1..

the LAW is a one-shot weapon, the RPG can be reloaded.

The only cool thing about this are the new missions and models. It still uses the same old ****ty OPFP1 engine and same old pathetic animations (why do they shoulder weapons with their biceps?)

It must be a good military training ad but the engine SUCKS

RPG-2/7/16/76 yes can be reloded in field, RPG-18/22/26/75 no they are LAW alike. And in OFP1 they use RGP-22(or26 don't remember too good) ...

AP maybe eingine is ****ty but the game is superb :P

hey a bit oftopic....

but whene I used to play the game, and there where missions with no sniperrifle in them (most of them ;) ) I found a trick to shoot guy's at great distance with the M16 or Ak,
dono if it works noadays or with all but this is what I did:

I went ****e selected the binoculars and aimed it on the target of choise (works actually on non moving soldiers) than I let loose my mouse and switcht to M16 without moving the mouse then I looked trough the iron sights and just hit the fire button. :) in a lot of cases I killed or wounded the soldier at great distance just aimed the binocular in the right angle ;)

maybe this also works with you...

cheers

OR you could just get yourself some skill and exercise untill you don't even need binoculars to do that... :)
