I would like to get some opinions on how what you guys think should be the next step in and the first step in creating the ideal 21st Century Battle Suit!

Anything not battery powered or electrical, and "trained" to discern targets, conserve ammunition and not terrorise the civilian population. Wears a combination polyster and cotton matching DPM uniform and a khaki beret.

Good call BC.
Everyone wants to dress up like they are the bloke from Halo or summat.
Ancient Celts went to war in woad!!!
I'm not an RM, far from it, but heard their 'state of mind' ad, which ends up with - 'if you want to earn the green beret, start with whats under it', thought that sounded pretty bang on.
Its the bloke that counts. Not whether he is wearing Azerbaijani battledress or a Miami Vice suit.

Hopefully the powers that be will start thinking about mobility, less cumbersome and lighter armor. More is not always better...I personally hate the IBA / OTV set up we have now. Wearing that set up for any period of time just wears you out.
I would rather see some type of rig that is closer to the plate carriers..but better. I would sacrifice coverage for agility any day. I have worn both the plate carrier and IBA on two different deployments and prefer the plate carrier...just my two cents :)

battle suit
any paratrooper wearing a maroon beret does not need no battle suit. the maroon beret deflects up to and including a 50 ton nuke being set off immediately to his left flank

I appreciate all your comments so far. I find that polymers designed to contour the body and provide some sort of medical assistance to the soldier is key. I find that mixing this with an on-board AI system in the helmut is tthe way to go for battlefield analysis. Linking the Helmuts A.I with the computer system in his weapon may improve the effectivness of the soldier.
Note: This so called ''BATTLESUIT'' would more be for small SF Units and not for normal infantry units!

Oh okay, because I was almost going to say you're being unrealistic there.

You could just recruit double-hard bastards and gain combat effectiveness that way?

the real trick is being able to create something that allows the soldier to retain his mobility and flexibility. The more cumbersome the soldier gets the easier it is for someone to see him and kill him. Lighter and thinner, yet stronger armor in more places of the body is the goal.
All in all though, if the soldier can't fight from the mind there is no way in hell any technology will ever save him.
This is exactly the kind of work I want/will be doing after I get my BA in Mechanical Engineering.
so bring on the ideas wankers.

I can see how this kit would be perceived as good stuff.
But what about the power requirements, the disadvantages of using it, the maintenance, the cost etc etc etc?
I think if you equipped a whole army with these things it could all go wrong pretty spectacularly. When they all screw up, your troops, which have trained to fight in these things, will be next-to-useless.
So instead of 'replace with', it needs to be 'supplement with'.
Use them in specialised roles, CASEVAC, resupply, maintenance troops lifting out engine blocks or whatever.
For combat roles, have a small element use these, but only when it becomes feasible of course! Have a company per brigade or such, and in that way you can use them for the most dangerous tasks to keep casualties down, and they can act to 'kick open the door' for the rest of the troops if required. Only use them in light brigades - on an armoured battlefield yes they will be more protected than your average human, but they will still fall prey to IFV/AFV weapons, so use them against light forces where they can make an impact.
That way you don't put all your eggs in one basket, and still have the conventional effectiveness of your regular troops to employ - troops that don't stop moving when they can't get a spare part or a battery charge or whatever.
Plus in keeping the numbers relatively low, you keep the cost pretty low too - always a winner and means youre more likely to actually get the project/procurement. Its all very well planning an all-robot army that will never be affordable or practical. Hey presto youve got your armoured blokes in their take-anything-they-chuck-at-me-and-no-casualties role, affordably and if it all messes up youve still got great conventional forces to rely on.
But I think a lot of work needs to happen between now and then to make it realistically deployable! At least its not as noisy as that pack-bot mule thing we saw the other month tho...

You find that do you?

Lots of experience in this field then?

or it may reduce it...

Who could actually use its gizmos - if it didn't weigh 3 tonnes and break down every 10 metres...
