NEIL DAVIDSON

BORDEAUX, France (CP) - Canada reached the quarter-finals of the Bordeaux sevens rugby competition Friday, thanks to a helping hand from Russia.

Canada finished 1-2 on the day but joined 3-0 New Zealand in advancing out of Pool A after Russia's 19-14 upset over France. The French needed to beat New Zealand in the last game of the day to edge Canada out for a quarter-final place but were soundly beaten 40-0.

Canada will play England in the quarter-finals Saturday while New Zealand plays Australia, Fiji takes on Samoa and South Africa tackles Argentina.

Stirling Richmond scored two tries in Canada's opening 33-10 loss to New Zealand, a game that was 14-10 for the All Blacks at the half.

The Canadians were then edged 14-12 by France, with Canadian tries coming from Christoph Strubin and Jesse Frender. The Canadians bounced back to thump Russia 33-0 with three tries from David Moonlight and singles from Jim Douglas and Strubin.

It would be good if Canada becomes a power-house team, we need to spread rugby to the infidels.

Having one of the best rugby teams in the Americas is equivalent to having one of the best human rights records in South America.

Until you're on a world stage, it doesn't mean ****.

That's not strictly true but I do have enough grapes for everyone to get an equal amount but only if the Politburo says it's alright.

Fiji owns rugby sevens!

Most Rugby Union Hong Kong Sevens Wins
This, the world's most prestigious international tournament for seven-a-side rugby teams, was first held in 1976. The record of nine wins is held by Fiji, who took the title in 1977-8, 1980, 1984, 1990-92, and 1998-99.
Fiji which is my second favorite rugby team. These guys can play sevens like none-other. Prepetual Motion Defined. Their jersey is all white with a black palm tree on the chest. The palm tree is rumored to have come about becuase in the aerly days there was a palm tree growing in the middle of Fiji's rugby field.
