hey guys do you know where i can find those fancy canadian gas mask pouches? Its not issued anymore in the PRes since there is a shortage so i was wondering if i could get one online.
Cheers
Not issued anymore in the Reserves? wtf Try going to your nearest ASU clothing stores an get it. Why don't you have a gas mask carrier already? Or are you new to the unit?
If you really wanna buy it, goto a surplus store they might have one.
Or if your unit is leniant on non-issue kit you can buy a HSGI or TT gas mask carrier.

He's right, a lot of guys don't get them issued (me for one). We go sans mask and carrier. Kinda blows to be honest but whatever, less kit to worry about right (granted, when the mustard gas cloud comes my way I'll be choking on my words....no pun intended)?
Sounds like the unit is being stingy, there is no shortage of this item in the system.
weird, like GNR said theres a lot in the system. **** I got two, one OD an a AR CADPAT one.

Its not a unit related problem apparently. Only 2 persons have it on my course and they are not allowed to use it. we have to put our masks in our c9 pouches. Id go to bfc st-jean (which is 15 minutes away from home) to sign one but the clerks at my unit didnt do my id card yet and i enlisted on november (wtf?). i knew the CF is not a fail-proof organization but i never thought it would deceive me so much
I heard about a shortage of masks as well, but apparently there is talk about a new one in development.
As far as carriers, no problems I know of.

Go to Prefair in Beloeil, I'm 100% sure they have these pouches for like 10$?
Don't waste money buying a carrier, especially on an issue one.
An yea, whats the point if you can't even wear it?
An, if you just joined an are a Recruit why is their a capbadge as your avatar? Don't think you've earned that yet...

CheersWhen I was in CFB Petawawa in 2007 I saw CadPat Respirator Haversacks for sale in the Canex. CBRN/NBC specialist is one of the roles I have been trained in as a soldier in the British Army, so I took note of this.
As a side note, CFB Petawawa, along with most CF bases, is a far better place for soldiers and their families to live than most British Army camps/bases.

Oh, you have got to be kidding.....I am not sure why you would think that. If you compare, for example, CFB Petawawa to UK places like Grantham or Catterick, the differences are vast in terms of troop accommodation and general quality of life for junior ranks. I am not saying Petawawa is a paradise by any means, I am saying that relative to most UK military installations I have lived and trained at, it is far superior.

If facilities at RAF Brizenorton and facilities at Cold Lake are typical comparisons to both contries military facilites... I would have to give a tip of my hat to the Canadian facilities. The one I stayed in and saw abouts the UK were pitifull. Of coarse that could be that we were a US crew simply transiting.
But then again... I have stayed in some places in the USA that would make a nomad shake his head in disgust.

If your into fast air, then it's hard to beat Cold Lake.
The weapons range is huge. 11,700 square kilometres
CLAWR is the northern equivalent to the United States Air Force (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Air_Force)'s Nellis Air Force Range (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nellis_Air_Force_Range) and provides a different training environment with heavy boreal forest and numerous lakes more closely resembling European terrain. It hosts over 640 actual targets and 100 realistic target complexes, including 7 simulated aerodromes with runways, tarmac, aircraft, dispersal areas and buildings, as well as mechanized military equipment such as tanks, simulated radar and missile launching sites, mock industrial sites, and command and control centres.

If you are not actually expecting to come under NBC attack in the near future, which for a reservist who is not deployed is probably the case, be glad you don't have to carry it around. I find that it constantly gets in the way when I have it attached.
If you still want to have the aesthetics of a gas mask carrier for some stupid reason (unit SOPS permitting of course) just buy a dump pouch from your nearest tactical supply store and attach it the same hard point on your tac vest.
Those can be folded up when not in use, and unless you are expecting to be mustard gassed, are much more useful.
