My first and only Black Rifle. The bayonet is pointless of course (no pun intended), but it's photogenic :D

Haven't had the opportunity to shoot it yet, but hopefully soon. This has the full-length heavy barrel, so in theory it's a bit more accurate at the longer ranges.

You'll have more luck posting it in there.

Me personally, I would have sought out a flat top upper variant, for more optic options, but still, that is a very nice rifle! Clean and simple, the heavy barrel is what tops it off also, nice buy there, I like it.

May I make some recommendations?

1. Caverly Arms and get their C1 stock, it is the same AR15A2 stock design but it is in the A1 elngth.

2. Go to Viking Tactical and get their excellent 2 point sling,

3. Get an under the handguard rail mount to add a decent light, Surefire G2LED is an excellent and inexpensive choice, GG&G or AAC has the under the handguard rail and you can just get a simple Vltor light mount.

4. Go to shop like Bravo company and get a extractor upgrade kit, usually it is a uprated extractor spring and a o-ring bumper.

5. Make sure your carrier gas key is properly staked. however i am not a big fan of heavy barrel on a combat weapon...

6. buy more magazines and stock up on ammo.

7. Get a Compact ACOG in the future.

Enjoy, you bought yourself a great toy and tool.

Leave it the way it is. KISS.

very nice, i wonder how heavier the barrel is than the A2 barrel its a heavy barrel too and shoots very nicely
i like the option of a flatop too for sight versatility but it is a purist version, a riflemens rifle. (i know some do not think highly of the 5.56 but a well aimed shot will kill ya like a 7.62 nato)

I also own that exact rifle. VERY accurate. The M16a2 is one of the cleanest rifles out there. KISS.

very nice gun, congrats to your purchase :)

BTW, I was wondering if anyone (SMGLee perhaps) could give me any general input on Bushmaster ARs - quality, experience,...?
I'm asking because I might just be able to buy a second hand Bushmaster M4gery that's still in good condition and time is kind of an issue here.
Personally I would love an LMT MRP but stuff like that is rather unavailable or extremely overpriced in europe
anyways, should I BUY or keep my fingers away from it?

thanks for your help

P.S. hope you're not to annoyed by my thread jacking Slater p-)

Royal,

The sugestion above are mostly internal perfonrmance upgrade that really has nothing to do with being KISS or NOT.

With Butshmaster, you usuall look for a few items....
1. the gas key, make sure it is properly staked, Bushmaster gas key has had some past record with it coming lose, which will render the weapo un-wuseable.

2. the extractor in the bushmaster are usually a cheapr spring and bumper, an upgrade to a extra power spring and CRANE o-ring plus upraten bumper will definitely increase your extractor strength in order to pull casing out of a dirty chamber.

Bushaster is a good gun, but they alsoe suffe from some inconsistant chrome lining in the chamber area, some of the casing could get stuck. I sually take a nice bore brush with some finest steel wool and a polishing compound on a steel cleaning rod hooked to a dremel tool or a low speeda drill. make sure you cover the gas tube, and give it few good spin so it can polish the chamber and even out the chrome lining.

Like i said earlier, the gas key need to be checked to make sure it is properly staked.

the barrel are crome lined and that is a major plus, the chamber is 5.56 which will ccept all 556/223 ammo. the barrel and bolt are supposedly MP inspected, but not sure if they are by sample through a lot or individual piece.

Bushmasters are one of the better tier two manufacture with good mil-spec parts, it just have some sight quarks that you have to make sure you deal with it so it do 't sneak up on you on the range or a training class.

Your rifle is fine the way it is. Don't take advice from the Tacticool crowd. If you want a M-4 or a clone. Buy one. Other than the few things SMGlee mentioned. I would leave it alone enjoy it the way it is. I have owned several Bushmasters over the years and all have been fine weapons.

Looks like a perfect rifle for most things the way it is. I'd love a basic no-beans A2 with a heavier barrel. That would be sweet for blasting furry creatures in the desert, etc.

I figured Bushmaster was 1st tier... What do you consider 1st tier? Colt? Anyone else?

For AR-15s, Colt/FN would be first tier (actually, can civilians buy FN made M16s?)

Good choice.

One thing you could do would be to add a muzzle brake to reduce it's already low recoil, but however: KISS.

FN doesnt make a civilian version of the M16 if this is what you meant, but in the US you can legally buy a FN upper receiver if you are lucky enough to find one

I figured Bushmaster was 1st tier... What do you consider 1st tier? Colt? Anyone else? For civilian rifles Colt, LMT and Noveske are considered first tier. Then everyone else in declining order. Bushmaster is in the middle of the pack in consumer rifles. What differentiates the top tier to the others is that they use mil-spec parts unlike the others which use consumer spec parts. Consumer parts are fine for most shooters but they are not made to the same quality or specifications as military parts. Bushmaster uses some mil-spec parts but that can vary depending on the model and their parts source. Colt, LMT and Noveske always use mil-spec parts in their military type rifles.

Top tier rifles are made out of the same metals used to make M16s. Not the cheaper metals used in most other civilian ARs. They will have the proper barrels with the same contour, 5.56 NATO chamber, rifling twist rate and chrome lined as military barrels. Front site will be the proper height. The rear buffer tube, buffer and spring are mil-spec. They use the proper M16 bolt carry group, instead of the lighter AR-15 BCG found in other ARs. Lower parts are much better quality. The lower magazine well will be the correct dimensions.

Na, I meant the whole rifle right from the factory.
