Evening all,
Am looking for an alternative to the cotton-based Norwegian shirt that doesn't hold sweat so much and dries out quicker, and came across the Swedish M90 shirt. Looks like the Norwegian shirt but the seller refers to it being of a better material...'hmmmm, does that mean wicking/thermal?' think I...
Here's the badger:
http://www.surplusandadventure.com/shop/army-surplus/clothing/military-clothing/genuine-military-m90-thermal-442993.html
Are there any Swedish troops here who can let me know:
A) Is the M90 cold weather top made of a wicking/thermal material like micro fleece etc, or does it hold sweat like a cotton top does?
and,
B) Is that garment 'a good piece of kit' generally?
To be honest, I like the Norwegian shirt design etc, but I just want one that lets sweat out and dries fast, as I not long ago bought a 'civvy Norwegian' in micro fleece which is great and highlighted that wet cotton = cold Britboy.
So if anyone could advise if the answer lies in one of these Swedish tops, that'd be great, and much appreciated.
Cheers!

I've used those shirts for weeks on and all I can say is that absorb sweat really bad. Not a good option
So,
A. Yes it holds sweat like a cotton shirt.
B. Yes it's a good peice, both warm and easy to clean in the field ect.

Oh, thats put a dampener on things - bit annoying that the website owner said how good the fabric is, if it isn't. I find cotton to be good for day to day use or if you are out for only a day or two, but I wouldnt want to be in a cold wet climate in it for too long, and it gets pretty humming and grebby after a day or two as well...
Need to find another 'Norwegian-but-wicking' then...
Well thanks v much Leaper for saving me 7 quid on something that isnt what I was after :p
Cheers

Do not order from Surplus and Adventure. They are utter ****e. I ordered two jackets which took around two months to arrive. On another occasion I ordered a shemagh and a pair of trousers from then and it took 6 weeks for the scarf to arrive, and a further six for the trousers. All of my phone calls and emails went unanswered when I was waiting.

No problem buddy. The shirt will keep you warm but it aint for wet areas.
Get yourself a wetsuit or a really huge condom with legs

Heh, well a lot of GB can be counted as 'wet areas', around the calender. Body condom it is!
And cheers for the advice on that firm dandan, sounds like a bloody poor showing from them!

The M/90 shirt is made for sweat wicking, and it works very well. I don´t know what kind of sh*t you got hold of but it can´t be the real thing. The shirt is not made for winter wear alone. It works fine if you´re moving about and keeping yourself warm, and for that you need to wear the m/90 field jacket, or the m/90 sweater, which looks a lot like the shirt but it is made of wool terrycloth. Very nice and warm.
One thing to keep in mind is that the shirt is not supposed to be worn like it is in the picture on the website. It is supposed to fit tightly on your body for it to be effective.

Really?! Then I must have got old fcuking shirts for years now!
If you ask me they are one of the worst issued items in the SAF arsenal, after the rainclothes...but thats an other story.
The shirt is made of 50% Polyester, 28% Polychlal and 22% cotton. (Holding one right now.) They are good anti-sweat material but I dont think it's good. But maybe it's just me.

Yes the site you got din't explain the shirt design and are idea of the fabric that well.
The shirt is made by Woolpower for the Swedish Armed forces, The design feature is that it's not suppose to hold water/sweat/moist in the fabirc and if it gets "drown" it will keep you warm and then dry fast, very much like fleece and wool, thats way the name. The fabric however is a mix of 69 % Merino wool 29 % Polyester 2 % Elastane and knited in a specific way to keep air traped inside to make a air isolation when used as a Base layer in cold weather. The ide of the fabric when you get hot is that you are suppose to be capable of sweating straight through the fabric. This is the design of the fabirc. If you are after a shirt to wear as a single layer in hot weather got for something in a synthetic fibre or rib-stop.
A Link to the manufacture if you are curious.

The older one's hade a different mix, the ones to day have a different mix.
From Woolpower homepage:
"ULLFROTTÉ AB (today Woolpower) WAS FOUNDED IN ÖSTERSUND IN 1969
The company was founded to produce nylon stockings. In the early 1970s, Ullfrotté Original was developed in collaboration with the Swedish military. The first Ullfrotté garments were produced in 1972."

That I can't explain, you perhaps got one of the more flame resistancent that is fore the Airforce (firemens, pilots, e.t.c.) or it maybe a test unit. Keep and frame it , it maybe a single unit and valuable. But wath I do know after working for the FCBK (Försvarsmaktens centrala beklädnadsförråd i Karlsborg) for two summers is wath I have described in prior replys.
Need to got hit the bunk now, rock climbing tomorrow :).

andreen, you got it mixed up.
The shirt in Britboys post is the M90 Shirt (Fältskjorta 90, grön M7320-207000) and you are talking about Värmeundertröja 93, M7322-126000.
It is two totally different shirts, Värmeunderställ 93 is issued mostly to Ranger units and can be used in conjunction with M90 Shirt (Fältskjorta 90) and Longjohns m/91 (Långkalsong m/91) or by themselves.

I have done a check with a old friend from FCBK and seem that I rememberd like a horse arse.
Värmeunderställ 93 = Woolpower Zip Turtleneck 200g/m2
Fältskjorta 90 = variant of the flame resistant Woolpower Zip Turtleneck 400g/m2 (thats way the strange fiber mix)
Tröja 90 = Woolpower Full Zip Jacket 400g/m2
Tröja 96 tjock = Woolpower Full Zip Jacket 600g/m2
