Armored Battallion, 3. or 4.Mech.Inf coy,

That would be the 3, coy, the first number in the tactical number equals the coy where it belong. Panserskallene må ha det enkelt :P

Probably. The numbering on the pics above is 3[1-4][1-4] which fits perfectly with your pattern.

Nesten: Esk, tropp, lag
Allmost: Squadron, plt and section

If this is the NATO excercise that was held just south of Trondheim some years ago, I took part in it as a reservist.
Not doing much good though, being put on a radio-transmit vehicle nobody knew what to do with.
Real REMF duty being tucked far away near some hydro-electric dam in real "Eagles-nest country", with squad-tent, multifuel, electric generator set and even an electric heater, bar a few hours radio watch, passing time with cracking jokes, drinking beer & whisky + reading boring **** mags and scandal press magazines. rofl
At one time we used to joke about putting up an OP in Club4
Not that I was all that unhappy about it, as I'm not exactly in "humping-up-and-down-the-mountain-with-50+ kg-on-my-back-no-problem-sir-shape" these days.
The snowy pics must have been from the 1st or 2nd day of the exercise. At least it snowed a lot where we were those days. Last night was quite cold, but remember one dog tired recce-squad returning to base camp during that night just laying out their insulation matting and sleeping merilly in their maggots under the chilly, moonlight sky, not bothering with the 5 sheet tent.

Not as cold as it looks actually. At this time of the year it can be quite warm in the sunshine actualy. Good way to pick up your suntan

The most brain washed "infantry" in the Norwegian army. Cavalry storm troopers. Anyway a big THX to those guys for letting us reservist borrow some of the new "waterproof" snow suits from their surplus (a very good piece of kit that I can recommend without hesitation)

This thing has an incredible over snow capability, allmost on par with a BV-206 and slightly better than the Leo with snow shoes on the tracks (which also incredibly mobile in the snow with those special track shoes)

Shared camp with these guys during my conscript service. A 1000 infantry against 100 and something cavalry. Mind you we stuck together.
The present Chief of Defence was 2. inf. battalion CO at the time

A sniper from the jaeger plt. of the 2.nd inf. battalion? Shared barracks and corridors with those guys in my time. Great guys and no softies. Allmost to a man with a background as either farm boys, hunters or outdoorsmen

USMC force recon? And those Mickey mouse boots still in use. Thought they were considered inadequate for the job, and causing more foot sweathing than necessary with any physical exertion?

American something i presume, in Spanish use. Can't give any better answer... :)

Lol, the poor bloke in the background. ERYX donkey. I'm SOOO glad i didn't end up as one of those! Lugging two of those missiles around in addition to whatever he needed in his backpack...
I ended up as team gunner after gunnery exam, carrying firing post, tripod and thermal imager. The loser got the job of humping two 12,5kg missiles for the rest of his service. Quite a bit more than the gunner. :D

Aah, the beloved ERYX. Here from our first firing towards the end of selection. It's a bitch to properly position and range could be better, but when you do hit, they WILL know! ;)

155 mm M198 made in US it look like.
If the battery was Spanish I would rather expect them to use the "home made" 155 mm Santa Barbara SB-155/39 howitzer instead though.

How much do you infantry guys hump around with nowdays with the new loadgear.
Like the Eryx donkey 25 kg of missiles + 5 kg gun + 5 kg basic load on webbing (with real ammo) + backpack of 10-15 kg = 47-52 kg.
Which is about the same a Recon carried in my days with 3-5 kg basic load on webbing + from 45-60 kg squeeezed into and onto the "Ludvik" backpack - 5 kg gun = 53-70 kg.
However fit we were all had the same sensation first time we put the "Ludvik heavy mode" on our backs. A sort of warm radiating "cold sweathing" sensation spreading from the temple/forehead and downward rofl.

Lol.. The new loadgear is probably worse than the marshall-bands in just about everything except how much you can put in it. One of those genious acts of letting a Norwegian company come up with a used up concept based on far too little testing and no field experience. End result was a bunch of complaints and everyone queing up to discard it for the new LBE designated "Ranger Vest", or something along those lines.
As far as load goes, you can really stuff it up if you want. My personal one weighed in at around ten kilos with all ammo (180rds, not standard 100), water and other essential, and not so essential, kit. I found that to be livable. Add my weapons (Glock and MP5), AT kit (around 15kg), and when on light-ops, bergen at about 25-30kg... Still quite a bit, and i was only regular infantry.
And yes, the sensation you described makes alot of memories come back!
