Abir is an original traditional and historic martial art that uses the forms of the Hebrew alphabeth as diverse combat applications as well as the symbols of Israels 12 tribes. This martial art is re appearing after a very long period in which its practicioners trained in utter secrecy until just recently when its leader who is in his 80's passed the systems leadership to his son with a command to spread the art to the people.Today Abir's ''Grandmaster'' is Yehoshua Sofer who is a direct descendent of King Dawid and a family that is 100 generations from Israel. Many documentaries are now in the works or set for release as this exotic combat dance has been capturing the hearts of all who see it.While Abir is a dance form that is pleasing to the eye and fun to perform,it is none the less quite effective and many people inthe counter terror/intelligence agencies have known of Sofer's prowess. The site is rich with imformation, photos, articles and video clips. Hebrew pages are available for must of the English pages on the site and vice-versa.

I realy enjoyed viewing the site so I wanted to share it with you.

I don’t know much about this abir martial art, however I have personally met the grandmaster Yehoshua Sofer and I must say he is defiantly the real deal.

Totally amazing individual and extremely skilled at what he does.

Go to his site for it saves me the time, for he has one hell of background and story to him.

Funny and interesting thing about him I remember is at the gym I saw him at, there was this pic on the wall of around a 100 people all decked out in marital arts garb and I believe they were all black belts and champions in their perspective martial art and most of them were Asians (and few non ones as well) in that pic and then in middle of the pic you see this head with a full beard and payot (“Jewish sideburns”) and I must say it was interesting to see him in that pic :D

Shalom :D

Do you know if Krav Maga has any connecting to Abir, I know that KM has it's roots in the creation of Israel but I'm wondering if it's deeper than that?

This is no flame!

this abir thing looks like real crap to me  :lol:Like I said before, I know nothing of this martial art, but the guy teaching it is the real deal (and not to be fooled around with ;) ) and is proficient in many other highly respected martial arts.

I say if he is doing this, then there must be something to it.

I would say the biggest mistake a person can do is to underestimate this person and as such I wouldn’t be too quick to underestimate this martial art as well ;)

Like I said, go check out his site for more info on him.

Shalom :D

I checked out the mpegs and the in the first form "The Angel" it looks to me like an Animal form of some sort using Crane and Snake, I recognise some of the motions from a 5 Animal form my Sifu has taught us, using Tiger, Panther/Leapord, Crane, Snake and Dragon. I'll forward it on to my Sifu to see what he thinks.

I am a gound and pound guy myself...unless they want to give up back for a collar choke or a nice rear-naked. I'd also take an armbar, kneebar or hell even an oma plata, although I don't think the latter is realistic in a street fight.

I practice Krav Maga (Hebrew קרב מגע : "contact combat") in France in the FEKM-RD (it is also the method used by the men of the GIGN).

History :

I am also interested in Systema, a Russian martial art :
