Maynard Navy SEAL killed in Afghanistan
The Associated Press

MAYNARD, Mass. (AP) - A Navy SEAL from this town west of Boston was killed in Afghanistan on Saturday, a family member said.

Brian Oullette was among four members of the American special forces killed in Zabul province. His mother, Peg Ouellette, confirmed his death Sunday.

"I loved him dearly," she said, declining further comment.

The military said late Saturday that the four were "killed in action" in Zabul province, but gave no details.

U.S. military officials in Kabul could not be reached for comment Sunday.

But an Afghan government official told The AP Sunday that the four died when their Humvee hit a mine in the province's mountainous Sorie district. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said three more Americans were wounded in the blast, and that U.S. and Afghan troops had cordoned off the area.

At least 89 American service personnel have died in and around Afghanistan since the start of the U.S. war on terrorism following the Sept. 11 attacks, including 55 killed in action.

REGIMENTAL PRAYER

Almighty, merciful, and loving Father,
you are the one who hears all our prayers and grants our petitions.

We ask you to remember, as we do,
the tremendous sacrifice made by those who went before us.
They have given their lives so that we might live and breathe freely.
We ask you to receive them into your hands.

Father, give us the strength and wisdom to learn from their example,
to uphold freedom and life at home and around the world.

Keep us vigilant as we guard the frontiers of freedom.

Give our leaders the wisdom and the strength to lead well.

Grant all of us courage and confidence.
Be, for all of us, troopers, a wise counsel in keeping peace
and a strong shield for us against our enemies.
Oh heavenly Father, give us the determination
that the peace and freedom won at such a high price be lasting!

Father, hold all of the troopers in the palm of your almighty hand
and protect them in the shadow of your wings.

Amen.

:( RIP

BTW, Eeeryday there are news articles about the fightings and gunbattles in Pushtun dominated south and southeast. Its a battlezone where Taliban are attacking the convoys, army bases or simply the villages, towns and cities. More than 300 people have died in violence across Afghanistan so far this year, most of them in insurgency-wracked areas of southern and eastern Afghanistan such as Zabul. Accoridng to some sources the Karzai government is downplaying this and instead exaggerating the minor incidences as big problems in the north and northwest.
