This comes as a big surprise to me. Is this a widely held view in israel or is it just a small segment of the society getting their way?

on a related theme, i know that except for certain christian sects, pre-marital *** is no longer a taboo. for muslims, it still is. where do jews stand on this?

Did you read the article?

Authorities say "*** and the City" posters may offend residents in Jerusalm and Petah Tikva.

Forum Films, the Israeli distributor of the soon-to-be-released "*** and the City" movie, said advertising posters and billboards won't be hung in Jerusalem and Petah Tikva because residents there don't want the word "***" on display, said company spokesman Arye Barak.

Both cities have large religious populations.

The Israeli company that is handling outdoor advertising for the movie asked to have the word "***" removed from the posters because it would bother people in those cities, Barak said.

"We told them, the way you don't remove the word "Coca" from "Coca-Cola" and just leave "Cola," we can't do it in this case," he said. "It's ludicrous."

Ads for the movie, based on the popular TV series, were to go up elsewhere in Israel on Tuesday night, said an official at Maximedia, the outdoor ad company.

Alternative outdoor ads will not be hung in Jerusalem and Petah Tikva, though the movie is heavily advertised on TV, the Internet and in newspapers, Barak said.

The worldwide release of the movie is scheduled for May 29.

This isn't the first time movie advertisers have come under pressure from the religious. When the animated Disney movie "Tarzan" was released here, Tarzan's loincloth created an uproar among religious Jews who found it provocative, Barak said. The outdoor posters that were already hung were taken down so the cloth could be enlarged, he said.

Nor is this the first time that "*** and the City" has run afoul of Israeli religious sensibilities. Several years ago, a poster and billboard campaign showing star Sarah Jessica Parker in a skimpy, sequined dress was quickly pulled and replaced with new ads of her in a dress that covered her arms, back and thigh.

Personally, the things I've seen in Israel in places like the Breakfast club, the Clinic, Dada and such I haven't seen anywhere else in the world and I doubt it exists anywhere else.

Well, I prefer not to. Let's just say that you need to stand in a long line to the bathrooms and it's not because people need to pee or puke.

Judaism doesn't advocate pre-marital ***, though most people in Israel are secular so they couldn't care less.
The government itself isn't for or against it just like any democracy, since it knows it can't avoid it there are *** education classes at a young age (they go into *** and not just talks about puberty at about the age of 14).

There's a comedy show called Eretz Nehderet, they used to make fun of him in the show saying he organizes trance parties for Hamas. Why do I have him? Don't know, I changed to this avatar long ago and kept it.

"a lot of them"... Man, Israel is a secular western liberal democracy. There is a large religious community, which indeed restricts all this *** stuff. Judging Israel by this community is like judging all Americans by the Amish people.

I guess it's because you live in Pakistan.
Orthodox Jews don't usually have *** before they are married, just like in every monotheistic religion the orthodox follow the rules and don't have pre-marital ***.
Secular Jews don't care much about these rules.

secular is not a stream in Judaism. there are three of those -reform, Conservative and orthodox.

most jews in israel are orthodox in their affiliation even if they don't follow most of the religious laws (just like the affiliation of most french is catholic even if they're secular).

well, actually, pakistan has nothing to do with the jokes....hell, more than half of pakistan hasnt had ***....even i havent!....so, not too many jokes about that.

i see a lot of it in the western media .... especially in stand ups.

tell me something....why do orthodox(?) or conservative(?) jews wear black and white clothing? and hats? and keep beards? i know its probably a religious injunction but what's the history behind it and is it linked to Moses or David or Solomon or any other prophet?

Because that's the way they decided to dress like in Europe in the 18th or 19th century (don't remember). It's modest and respectable. In Arab countries Jewish rabbis used to dress much like the Mullahs and Imams dress. In Israel both decided to change a little from the European version and created the Israeli dress you see, but still spahardi rabbis wear that old Arabian dress.

As Snoshi mentioned, these are Ultra Orthodox. Orthodox Jews wear a yamulka and under their clothes you can't see but they wear a Talit, other than that they dress like everyone else but try to keep it modest.

Well yes, actually.

slut, n
a. A person, especially a woman, considered ******ly promiscuous.
b. A woman prostitute.

I have no idea what audiences find appealing in these characters. It's kinda sad that the net result of the ****** revolution isn't men being held to the higher standard that women once demanded...but that women have sunk to the depths of what they detest in men. It's like a movie featuring 4 versions of Herb Tarlek.

almost every 13 year old jewish boy in israel has a bar mitzva in an orthodox synagogue even though there are conservetive and reform ones in israel, and almost every jewish couple marries in an orthodox wedding even though they can take a short trip to cyprus and a have a civilian wedding.
the few other religious obligations isarelis uphold are done according to the orthodox way.

so most israelis are orthodox in their affiliation even if they are not at all devout just like turks are Sunni in their affiliation even if they are not at all devout.

No, that's called a monopoly. If you believe what you're writing then you're either naive or out of touch with reality. As an example; there are two Reform kibbutzim in the Arava and a Reform Mitzpe in the Galilee. When they have weddings, it's the Rabbi from Eilat who presides (just like he does at Kibbutz Ketura, Grofit, Yotvata and the others), or whoever is near Carmiel, because that's who the state recognizes as the presiding authority. The comment about 3 streams of Judaism is almost ridiculous in the Israeli context; it's a diaspora reality. With all due respect to both the Reform and Conservative movements in Israel, they haven't been successful in shedding their diaspora image. As for labels, I'm sick of them. Better an ethical shmutznik who eats bacon than the Rebbe Yosef and his pack of SHAS goniffs (thieves in Yiddish)

Go to Cyprus because it's nearby to get married, absurd.
