Ehm the point in "Todays Pic" is to show pictures of events that occurred today, or yesterday at least... Not to show random pic of elicopter. :)

Police officers seal off the area surrounding the nuclear power plant in the city of Oskarshamn, Sweden, after a terrorist alert, Wednesday, May 21, 2008. Two men were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of attempted sabotage after one of them was stopped at the entrance of a nuclear plant with a plastic bag containing traces of an explosive substance, police and plant officials said. The incident triggered a security alert at the Oskarshamn nuclear plant and a bomb squad was sent to the scene to investigate. Police initially said a welder had been taken for questioning after he arrived for work Wednesday with a plastic bag containing traces of triacetone triperoxide, or TATP, an explosive used in the London bombings in 2005.

In July 1941, a US Marine brigade of 4 000 men took over the occupation of Iceland from the British so that the 20 000 Brits could help the war-effort elsewhere. Eventually there were almost as many Americans as there were Icelanders on the island.

Although the German Luftwaffe did bomb Iceland, it was spared any heavy fighting. Iceland did make big news when a German weather ship was seized off its coast in 1941 and documents about the German "Enigma" master coding machine were found on board, giving the Allied forces a major break.

Pro-independence Polisario Front supporters look at a military parade in the Western Sahara village of Tifariti, Tuesday May 19, 2008 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Polisario Army. After Spanish colonizers left Western Sahara in 1975, Morocco and Mauritania went to war over it. By 1979, Mauritania had pulled out and Morocco had taken over. But fighting continued between 15,000 Saharaui's Polisario guerrillas and Morocco's U.S. equipped army. A U.N. negotiated truce in 1991 called for a referendum on the region's future, but that vote never happened.

The champions league-tournament could probably be compared to the stanley cup or superbowl, only much, much bigger in every aspect. The best teams in Europe play eachother, and play the final match in a pre-determined city. Chance had it it was Moscow this year. Btw what the hell is up with hotel prices in Moscow? 3 000 $ a night during the final, and easily 800$ a night the rest of the year??:)

No he is not from the Navy, he is a "Troupe de Marine". It is (like the legion) part of the Armée de Terre (land army) but with its own spirit and traditions. He is not SF (not sure). Yes, This man is from the "Troupe de Marines". You can see it with the Anchor on lozenge on his left arm.
I was coming to know more about is regiment.
I'm discussing with friend, we beieve he belongs to the DAA (Détachement d'Accompagnement d'Autorité, Army-belonging bodyguard for in-situ executives).

For his weird FA-MAS, he got a new system, the ISAA, a kind of frech RIS system, using picatinny rails. He also get a PIRAT laser (french AN/PEQ2), and a unidentified optic.
FOr his gear, I'm sure about a CIRAS, could be one of the ballstic vest made in Afghanistan specially for them (took at the back, there is a kind of scratch part , and shoulder cratch are not from a CIRAS)

If anyone get more infos about wich regiment he comes from, I very interested.

Great and amazing pics anyway,

Would this rule still be in place now that conscription in France has ended? Also I am pretty sure the Army's Troupes de Marine have all kinds of units- infantry, armour, artillery, engineers- so they are not used just for force protection. They are also to an extent mixed in brigades with other units so Troupes de Marine (which is a redesignation of the old Coloniale units) would seem to be more an honourary title than anything else these days.

IIRC, their law states that you can't show arrested people with handcuffs on, because that would label them as guilty and it's up to the judge to decide about that. So even in pictures people are innocent until proven otherwise.

Dear Member,

Thanks for the correction. Of course you are right. In the US when anyone hears the word "Marine" they think like our Marines which are part of the US Navy. In the USA state of Pennsylvania, south of Pittsburgh at a US National Battlefield Park at Ft Necessity where our first president George Washington, basically started the first world war by ambushing a French force sent out to ask what he was doing, they have two park rangers who exhibit themselves as French Marines (most stayed in Canada after finishing their enlistment) who were from France but commanded by French Canadian officers. They do a great job. Even down to the cheaper muskets they were supplied with.

Btw, can you answer what the official name of the French Naval Commandos are. I would appreciate very much.

Again, thanks for taking the time to correct my message.

Btw, can you answer what the official name of the French Naval Commandos are. I would appreciate very much.

We call them "commando marine" .Literally : navy commandos. Marine means navy in french. Perhaps it is the source of some confusions for english speakers.

there are six "commando marine" which are part of the french special forces.

-the commando Jaubert
-the commando Trepel
-the commando de Monfort
-the commando de Penfentenyo
-the commando Hubert ( you need to spend several years in the other "commando marine" to be eligible for that one )
-the commando kieffer ( a brand new one )

they were created during WW2 in great britain and are nammed from fallen officers I think during D day. They all have different specialities.
