Working on My AR15 (bolt carry and charging lever out). I experienced my first jam with in over a year...when the bolt tried to slap two rounds into the same bore...
Not a lot fo great pictures unfortunately. We had a lot of people bail out at the last minute because of rain. There was a lot, and it sort of stuck around all day. My Explorer is one big mud ball. Washing it today...
Also today, I am getting together with my old man and a family friend to try out his new scoped Springfield 1903A3, so maybe I'll throw up some pictures later today or this evening. Maybe just do a quick and dirty bolt action shoot.

Looks like fun. What munitions were you using in the AR rifle?

Winchester 62gr brass...
The problem was grit in the mag. My friend loaded some of the magazines and had dropped a couple rounds into the mud. He claimed to clean it off, but I am doubtful. There is no reason the gun should have jammed the way it had and there was grit and sand in the mag and mag well.
No damage done except for the two rounds and the fix was easy. I always pack a full tool kit and "on the fly cleaning spray".
I also shot some 62gr Wolf hollow points. The new ones are pretty nice. No heavy laqer over the steel casing whihc leaves behind almost NO residue in comparison to their old stff.
Note: For those of you that DO shoot the older wolf laquered rounds (regardless of the caliber) clean your bore and receiver REALLY well. The laquer melts when the round is fired leaving a fair amount of it on the inside of your bore. Not cleaning it will actually reduce the size of the bore and the round my not seat well. You may be able to fire but you may also get a gap between your bolt and the round...which is NOT good...
You can shoot the laqered steel casing just maintain the gun properly after each session of use.

I have never had any luck with anything Winchester. I have had better luck with even the Wolf, although I prefer barnaul.
The small amount of dirt should not have caused a malfuntuion unless the weapon was already dirty. Maybe just a fluke.
Lookes like it was good time regaurdless.

We only grill small dogs...
Looks like great fun. Weapons seem to be clean and in good condition despite the weather, a sign of responsible ownership, BBQ pics are nice. I've shot military versions of a few of the guns, damn how I miss it right now.

Just got back. We had a little three man shoot this afternoon...it was going to be just bolt action...slow and steady, no 30 round mags or smei auto shotguns...
But I cleaned and double checked the AR and my old man brought his new Mossberg 1100...so it was MOSTLY bolt-action...
A nice closure for Memorial Day Weekend...
Man, I LOVE living in America. :)
I'll have pics up tomorrow for these...

Three days after each shoot we do a cleaning get together. Break down the weapons, get out the break free and cleaning kits and go to town...
Then drink a couple cold ones...
I might be one of the few people that enjoys cleaning my guns. In another two months my reloading and "smith" room should be nearing completion. I just picked up a metal food prep table in almost new condition to form the center piece of the layout...pciked it out of a Barnes and Noble dumpster... :D
Its great to be a dork.

I am the same as you. I will spend at least a half an hour cleaning each rifle after I shoot it. I really enjoy this part.

It's like you had a blast .. great shots.. it rained all weekend so i didn't get to go out .. sigh .. maybe next weekend.. anyway thanks for sharing.. you ever get up near NW Indiana .. let me know i'll take you out shooting .. nice range ... 200yrds .. sweet .. the range i goto is up too 225 .. would like to find one close to me that goes out to 400 + ..
OH yeah .... forgot to ask .. do you all save your targets or take pics of your groupings? I'd love to see some pics if you do )
Durandal
06-01-2004, 09:30 AM
No, we don't normally. We reuse targets a fair amount, just tape them up and shoot again. The IPSC targets cost .50 each, so going through a hundred in a day would be damn expensive...the paper targets are much cheaper, but its easier to tape or mark the previous shots and go on shooting.
We also shoot at steel targets, which obviously cannot be saved. Though I have some old ones when we first started building our own that show just how much steel a .223 CAN penetrate...never mind a .303 , .308, or .30-06

Awesome~!
We did the same thing, and our Russian friends made a giant batch of Shashlik (sp?) and after the shooting we had the campfire and vodka...ahhh, shoots are a blast! I didn't take any pics of ours this time, but if my buddies post theirs I'll rip 'em off and post them here too.
That CETME in the pic of the guns on the table, is the front handguard non perforated or is it the angle? Mayne its a G3? Magnificent.

Springfield 1903A3 Custom. Sit rail was done at Rock Island arsenal in the 50s or 60s, and I added the Simmons scope, rings, and sling as a gift for my Father (B-Day and Father's Day combo).

That's cool. Is the '03 bolt handle a custom part or did you make it on a CNC?

It was done at Rock Island Arsenal. The rail is Redford. It has been parkarized along to match the barrel and receiver. The bolt was custom machined to fit the Redford scope. My uncle was the Army rep at Rock Island and when he was reassigned they let him pick a gun to take with him.
This was that gun.
This is not an 1903A3-A4 config (they never stamped them A4...A4s were more accurate A3s with no iron sights and a scope. Usually something like an M83 Harris or something...

Nice pics Durandal, I got stuck doing yard work Sunday and then a BarBQ at the inlaws Monday :| looks like you had a good ol time and man, love the Enfield :)
So what was the turn out like, how many showed?
Durandal

Only 9...7 guys and 2 women and nearly a 3 to 1 ration in firearms to people. :)
5 people bailed because of work or weather related issues. We had a guy that blew us off to a local coin collecting convention. He will receive no small amount of ridicule for this on Thursday.
