German firms are developing newer lines of explosives which do not use so much carbon and leave less polluting residue behind. Check out the article: http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn1244
You have to give credit to German engineering! Now we can blow the Hell out of Al Queda in a much greener way without having to worry about all those expensive carbon credits!

Isn't there another thread about it? Or did I have too many already?
"It may sound strange that military are concerned about health and safety," says Thomas Klapotke, at the University of Munich. "But 99.9 percent of missile launches and explosions take place in training, over your own territory and involving your own personnel."
Makes alot of sense for me. If you have a bombing range next to your house you can sleep better now.

Surely the cost will drop once a viable formulation and manufacturing process is arrived at. What about longevity? For example, will devices made using these 'new' explosives still be dangerous after 50 years?
