For a long time I've personally been looking for a way to help the guys in Iraq in a very direct way. Baby wipes and sunglasses are fine but being ex-LE something of "tactical" use has always been more appealing. Know what I mean?

Now I found what for ME is the perfect way to get into the fight, so to speak. I'm looking to acquire a number of ACOG's for a platoon (1/37, the 1st Armored Division) engaged with the Sadr Militia (read terrorist scumbags) in and around the Karbala area.

Sunday I placed an add selling three NSN's that were gathering dust in my gun room. All three were sold before a father e-mailed me with an appeal to buy them all so he could send them to Iraq. He however was too late and they were already sold and confirmed.

I couldn't help him with the three that were already sold but I did make available my other two NSNs, one of which I donated. Both scopes were shipped Monday via Priority Mail directly to his son along with twenty five phone cards and some other personal stuff I purchased. Since then I've personally purchased two other TAO1's that I will also donate and ship later this week.

Tuesday, I made an appeal to some of my customers to make donations to fund more scope/equipment purchases and the response has been gratifying.

So what am I asking of AR15.com members?

Only that if you have an extra ACOG (TAO1, TAO1-NSN, any TA31 for 5.56) sitting on a safe queen (or three] like I did please consider selling it at fair market price and I'LL BUY THEM.

TA-51 mounts, -19 or -19s are all fine. If your TAO1 only has the carry handle scope mount screw that's OK too, as I already have extra mounts on hand to send if needed. These guys apparently have a mixture of M4's, M16A4's and M16A2's.

My only requirement is that the scopes are in excellent or better condition w/o damage and that the tritium is still bright.

PLEASE don't start a thread here with opinions on other optics or the pros and cons of one reticle over another. I WANT TO SEND THESE GUYS WHAT THEY WANT AND WHAT HAS BEEN APPROVED BY THEIR CHAIN OF COMMAND ... ONLY.

Thanks for considering this appeal. Please respond via e-mail at MPSS1978@aol.com or call me at work 815-969-7749.

Any scopes purchased will be forwarded my me personally and the soldier who gets it will know who gave it up. I'm sure he will contact you with his thanks.

Lastly, imagine the piece of gear YOU provided giving some terrorist asshole the last surprise of his miserable existance ... ...while helping a US soldier win OUR fight and come home to his family.

Thanks to everyone for reading through this.

God Bless the United States of America, all those who believe in what this country stands for and all the Patriots who defend Her.

]Just received this e-mail.

John,

My son Ben called from camp Lima near Karbala today. It
appears that the 1/37th has kicked the Mahdi militia's ass,
and the insurgents have withdrawn from the city, with some of
them supposedly moving on to Faluja. Ben said it was wierd
indeed to move around town without getting shot at and to see
so many Iraqis waving and trying to convince our guys that
they're friendly now. And to see kids smiling and playing in
pock-marked areas where just a few days ago they were engaged
in serious firefights. The same thing seems to be happening
in Najaf where the First Armored Division has also killed
hundreds of Sadr's fighters. We can be proud of these guys,
and the courage and perserverence they've demonstrated in no
uncertain terms.

They're now patroling as they did before in Baghdad, with
IEDs and ambushes from various groups still a threat. What
all this means and where it's all going remains to be seen.

Ben told me that two days ago he mounted and zeroed his ACOG.
It was the first one sent out and was his own before he left
for the army, the one he learned on. Today, they spotted a
guy up on a roof pointing something at them. He swung up his
rifle to fire, but saw through his scope that it was a camera
with a long lense. I guess this is how all those camera men
got shot. This guy owes his life to Trijicon.

Ben was surprised to hear that five more ACOGs and the LT's
EOtech are coming right behind his, and I told him what
you're doing; he was amazed, and will be telling the LT today
about your efforts. He'll be calling me again when they get
back in from their current operation. I will pass on your
phone numbers then, so you will probably be hearing from Ben
and the LT before too long. They still have no access to
email.

Thought you'd appreciate hearing the latest; keep in
touch...

Just before I left work STREAMLIGHT confirmed an expedited shipment of 20 M3s and 400 CR123s. THEY managed to cut through the bureaucratic BS of becomming a new distributor in two phone calls and will ship NDA next week.

Not my first choice for a tactical light but good enough for room clearing and short range or ... no light at all.

Unfortunatey the same co-operation could not be had from SUREFIRE even though the product was in stock and the cash was ready to be wired or FedEx'd. "No, I'm sorry I can't tell you when we can ship". WTF!

If anyone would like to e-mail an appropriate letter or note of support to these guys I'd be happy to print it out and forward it with the gear.

PS

GOOD MORNING

I just got a call from Iraq and talked to the young PFC who's platoon we're doing this for. Best call I've ever had at 5:00am!

I don't know how many times he expressed his/their appreciation for sending the ACOGs but it was a lot.

To all the Members here who have helped out in this effort or who have expressed their support THANK YOU!

WOW This guy John aka "Prideboss" has sent from what I can tell over 10 ACOGs to troops in Iraq.
If I had an ACOG I would sent mine. :)
I have alot of respect for this guy if he is paying for these ACOGs out of his own pocket.

Please don't turn this into a flamefest, If you don't agree with the war or what is said above, then hit the "back" button on your browser.

If this has been posted already I apologize. Mods if i posted this in the wrong section again I apologize.
