I'm only covering a few of the ships that are in the ROCN. These are all of ROCN ships being operated by ROCN, not the same design operated somewhere else. There are many pictures and they are slow loading; be patient.

IDF = Indigenous defense fighter

This IDF program mainly cooperate with General Dynamics. So it looks like F-16. Many electric-system and parts were supplied from US Industries except engine. Turvo fan engine was developped with Gallet, from Business jet transporter engine TFE731. Less power is weakpoint of
this plane. Production amount was planned as 256, Production has been reduced to 130 after orders were placed for the F-16 and Mirage 2000-5.

There is currently an upgrade program underway for the IDF. The new platform will be called F-CK-1C/D. It will be enhanced for strike missions, and it will be quite a lot more capable than the current versions. Only a portion of the fleet will be upgraded. They are also looking at using extra F-16A/B engines on an upgraded F-CK-1, but we'll just have to see what happens there.

IDF does not look like F-16, but a mixture of F-16 and F/A-18 and sexy.

A joke is that Taiwan pilots call IDF "I Don't Fly", which emphasize the need of enhancement. But I'd say the name F-CK is definitely not a good one.

And people say that the PRC copies a lot of stuff. rofl

Are you referring to the Indigenous Defense Fighter design? Well why don't you ask Lockheed Martin? They are the ones who help designed IDF, so basically Taiwan "copied" the design with Uncle Sam's approval. As for their PFG-2 "Cheng-Kung" Class frigates, they are license produced version of the US O. H. Perry Class frigates except the helo deck is about one meter longer, and I do not think that is copying at all, at least they "copy" them with the original owner's permissions.

Just to clarify: Calling IDF "I don't fly" were not the pilots, but critics and media. There was one high profile crash during testing. Also during its first public unveiling in front of the president and media, the plane blew its nose landing gear tire while taxiing. Some people started joking that IDF really meant "I don't fly," and as with all jokes, this one stuck even though it was unjustified.

Of the 3 frontline fighters in the air force, IDF has better safety records than F16 and Mirage 2000. Many pilots also prefer it, as it has two power plants instead of one.

F-CK stands for Fighter, Chin-Kuo, Chin-Kuo being the name of an ex-president.

Taiwan-produced OH Perry Class frigates are longer than the US version, because the Taiwan version carries more weapons.

Actually, I was more or less making a joke/crack at the amount of "Of such and Such design" you had to put in your comments. *Shrug* it's really no less than how much the PRC copies itself.
