Does any units of the Russian military use the AK-103? What about police or paramilitary?

I've seen some pics from Roman or someone else with pics of Russian special forces with some AK-103s. So I would imagine yes. Try looking in the Russian Photos thread, your bound to run across something there if you take the time.

Here is a pic I found. Its about a week old from the Russian pics thread. I might be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure I see a few AK-103s in the pic below.... Thank RomanS:

To the best of my knowledge it is in use in limited quantities with select units of the Russian Special Forces:

OSN Rositch
OSN Vityaz

And I believe Roman mentioned that the FSB's Alfa and Vympel units are also using the AK-103 but don't quote me on that.

Somehow I always thought the AK-100 series are for export not for Russian military - but some spetsnaz units seem to use/try them... might be wrong though.

Since the AK-103 is chambered in 7.92x39 the magazine has a more ****ounced curve to it compared the AK74. That's probably the best way to tell it's an AK-103 from a distance.

Lucky. I live in Canada so unfortunately we can't own AKs, I'd love to go down to the states just to get an opportunity to shoot one of those beauties off.

Anyways, Like you already stated, the threaded front sight and stock are one way to tell the difference between the two rifles. Another way to tell the AK-103 apart from the AK-47 is to look at the reciever. The AK-47 uses a milled reciever while the AK-103's reciever is stamped steel.

When comparing the AK-103 from the AKM they use similar recievers but the top dust cover is different. The AKM's cover has three reinforcement ribs running across it while the AK-103 returns to a smooth cover like the AK-47.

Actually, the AK-103 is like a AK-74M, but with a different barrel, chambering, bolt and compensator.
