wats the deal wiof the assortment of weapons in these pics?
is it to do wif the aggressor force type situation thats seems 2 be happening or wat?
by the way wat small arms are in the ROK forces inventory?

Most of these photos were taken during training, counter-espionage activities, coastline patrols, or reconnaisance operations. Nothing serious going on.

Korean infantry weapons: Daewoo K1(assault carbine. Recently Korean soldiers use an improved version of the K1, named K1A), K2(assault rifle), K3(support weapon), K4(Korean version of the Mk. 19 grenade launcher), K5(pistol), K6(Korean nomen for the Browning M2HB), K7(silenced submachine gun), M60(GPMG), M16A1(for reserve units), M1 Garand & M1 Carbine(for reserve unit training), Panzerfaust(AT weapon), LAW(AT weapon), M3A1(submachine gun, now totally out of service) etc.

Excellent Pics. I hear nothing but good about the ROK marines. Many US service men say that these dudes are top notch, highly disciplined, and absolutely vicious killing machines.

wat is the quality of this compared to a M16A3 or watever?
Compared to the F88 Styer???
Are they cheap copies or are the quality adaptions?

As far as I know..

the proto was meant to humping amazing but you know.. $$$..

It's too long to explain the detail and I forgot all that by now
but I do know that the QC for the export versions is VERY good

A lot of shooters love it..

First let me say the South Koreans field an INCREDIBLE infantry. This reputation evolved particulary when the US used KATUSA; Korean soliders detached to Regular Army units in S. Korea. Although the Koreans solider earned a fraction of their US counterparts, they were indefatigable--they could run all day, highly disciplined, and sharp as tacks. This reputation applied to their Ranger School. US personnel did attend this course, but the graduation rate was always extremely low, and eventually the Korean Ranger course was closed to US personnel on the grounds of the low grad rate.

Korea's K2 first entered service in 1987. It is a gas operated, selective fire rifle with a folding plastic buttstock. (K1A, assault carbine version has collapseble sliding wire stock)

K2 uses a long stroke gas piston over the barrel, driving a bolt carrier with rotating bolt. However, in K1A, it also has the usual bolt carrier and rotating bolt, but instead of using a piston, gas is piped back from the barrel and strikes bolt carrier directly. (like AR15s) Both upper and lower receiver are constructed from robust aluminum.

Both K1A and K2 can fire single shots, three-round bursts and full auto.

notes: 1. K7 Submachine guns are a sort of 9mm conversion of K1A Assault Carbine with integrated silencer like MP5SD. K7 was commissioned and entered a service with South Korean Army recently.

2. A small number of K1s were offered to US Civilian market in the late 80s as "MAX-1 Auto Carbine."

the ROK military is pretty badass, I was playing a soccer game at Deagu and an officer was watching, he was a ****ing warrior if i had ever seen one, big aviators and and a warlords uniform make the man.

I'm going to the DMZ in January for a U.N trip, I'll take some pics of real badass mofos for you guys, those Korean DMZ MPs look serious as ****.

There's about 3000 South Korean Army troops in Iraq.

Thanks for the pictures. Tough guys all around!

Anybody knows why SK's army has yet moved on to Kevlar helmet. Seems quite an important gear, even Iraqi soldiers got them.

The two times I trained with ROK Marines I was less than impressed...

During one night movement we had a platoon- of ROK's attached and one senior NCO dropped out of a night movement from dehydration, and another, no sh*t, lost the barrel off his SAW. It took three pissed off LCpls and a red lens flashlight 20 mins to find it for him.

I'm not saying these guys aren't in great shape... for the most part they are, all NCO's are black belts in Tae Kwon Do. Compared to a line company of Infantry Marines though, Koreans are typically much weaker.

They do live a MUCH more spartan lifestyle than U.S. Marines though. They're barracks make ours look like Fraternity houses.

For a conscript military, the ROK is tops.

South Korea has like five Special Forces Groups, don't they?

Also, how come whenever I see ROKs walking along the DMZ fence they have their weapons resting on their hips? Is that normal for ROKJ soldiers on patrol or is it like that for a special reason?

army SWC, navy UDT/SEAL, marine special recon, airforce 6th sar team, and normal army observation teams.
And special team under intelligence command.(they are most secret unit in korea. they infiltrate to north korea.)

and resting weapon on hips.
really stupid and useless tradition of south korean armed force.
we call it 'left guard position' it's originally u.s. army's guard position.
It's not suitable for immediate action.
but those old guys think it looks very good.
so it doesn't change to more effective guard position.
damn.

other SWC's bn doesn't have CT unit I know. but army MP-SRTs are also CT unit
