Hello

I'm going to make myself a carrying bag for belted 7.62 NATO ammo. Like this one (http://www.tacticaltailor.com/ProductImages/bagscases/350/40010-7_front_350x350.jpg) from Tactical Tailor (http://www.tacticaltailor.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=16). But the Swedish ammobox that come with the FN MAG is originally for Swedish 6.5 mm, so the dimensions are way off.

Can someone provide me with the measurements for 200, 250 and 400 belted ?

I know the dollar is cheap now, but it'll still be a lot cheaper to make one myself. Or several.

I don't know if you operate any differently to this, but when using the gun in the light role I break the belt into 100 round belts to make it easier to handle. I fill the normal utility pouch on my belt kit with these. I'll also break down two approximately 50 round belts that fit in the rifle mag pouches. The remaining 100 round belts go in my daysack.

When patrolling, I have a 50 round belt on the weapon for immediate action. If I adopt a good position and it seems like I'll be there for some time, I'll go straight to using the 100 belts from my daysack. If not, then I'll use the 50 round belts from my webbing whilst moving to a good fire support position.

The upshot is that I keep my 'fire support' ammo in my daysack and the ammo in my webbing is 'ready ammunition' in case I need to get the gun into action quickly. So there isn't any real need for carrying huge quantities of link on your belt kit, or specific pouches. But that's just how I work it.

As for the original question, I don't know the dimensions I'm afraid! A 200 round belt weighs around 12 pounds, that's all I remember! Ha ha!

I do something similar when/back when I was a gunner, but when we want to haul ready to use 200 belts, we only have tinboxes from 1900-froze-to-death made for another kind of rounds. Rattle around the box is no good.

I'll see what I do with the manuals I have.

Do you not have access to belted ammo yourself? If not, why are you making a special pouch?

Because I'm a militarygeek?

I'm in the homeguard, just a weekendwarrior. The guns, belts and boxes are locked up and it's summer now. No exercises for some time, that's why.

So, instead of bying one for $75,5+shipping, I'm building one from gear I have at home for $10.

May I ?

I have a guy who is a guy out of Arizona who makes these for me for $50 bucks each. . .

He is making me three in ranger green. I would have a 25 round belt ready to go and then switch to the 200 round pouches. Thus you can let your belt just dangle around have it ready for a 25 round burst which would enable you to get away under cover.
