Hello,
I tried searching to no avail. Can some of the Slovenian members identify the colours and units of the Slovenian Defence Forces. The appropriate name of the colour as well. Also why do some soldiers wear a what looks like a grenade with plumes with a wreath surrounding it mean? It's reminiscent of the Austro-Hungarian period. Pics and descriptions are helpful.
Also where can one aquire some of these items? Slovenian Army is most impressive.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Huh, you are emanding eh?well, the best source of info is www.slovenskavojska.si (http://www.slovenskavojska.si) and to get those items on www.bolha.com (http://www.bolha.com) Black berets are worn by armoured units, red by motorised, light blue by AF, dark blue by navy, light brown by infantry, dark brown by engeeners, dark green by MP and SF, grey by mountain infantry. Perhaps I forgot something, you never know...

You forgote pale yellow for NBC. Insignia you talking about is probably from 1st brigade.
Have seen several different photographs of Slovenian soldiers wearing maroon berets, but unsure about the units they are attached to. Some wear the standard tricolor Army crest, and others the flaming grenade badge in a wreath mentioned by flatdog. The latter I have also seen worn by Military Police.
I think SF are having berets more dark green then MP.

Thanks to all who have graciously posted on this matter.
On this last picture, the third man in has a sand coloured beret? Brad is right, there seems to be two different coloured green berets. Any clarification on this?
Mladina, thanks for your input, but could you be more specific? By the way the sites you kindly mentioned are not in English so it's difficult to comprehend.
The silver badge is still a mystery as Icus has pointed out.
Cheers,
Flatdog
I think third guy is from NBC, like ronin wrote:

Also like he wrote the insignia is worn by members of 1st brigade.

Brad,
Okay beret is pale yellow=NBC. Looks like sand to me ;)
The 1st Brigade badge is a nice one, I used an online translator on the file but was very unclear. Anyway do you or anyone know the significance of it ( the badge)? It would be nice to know why it is used instead of the more common "Triglav" badge.

On closer inspection of the badge, it appears to be a globe with a numeral one on it. Crossed swords behind, and a cluster of long feathers giving an appearance of a bursting grenade. All surrounded by a wreath of unknown leaves?
I will try to translate but do not smile at my translation.
The insignia is based on the symbol of grenadier units. This is cannonball with the torch of explosion. Canonball is changed with globe, wich shows purpose of the units who are wearing it-international military cooperation. The conection with the celtic symbol of sun, which is clasped by globe in the form of hoop illustrates cooperation in making world peace and security. Torch of explosion is changed by 4 feathers of grouse (mountain ****), which were worn sometimes by slovenian boys on their hats or military hats. Wreath is constituted from evergreen (myrtle; periwinkle), which was the symbol of slovenian rustic revolt and slovenian national movement.
Ihope I have helped you. You know there is a problem becouse I do not speak english well.

Brad,
Thank you for your help. Your English is very good. That was the explanation I was looking for. It gives depth to the meaning of the badge.
Anyway, how do I get one? As well as other Slovenian badges and militaria.
