Hallo Fellow Members:)

Can anybody identify this badge, and does it have any Military context?

Unless I'm way off base, no it doesn't. The Hebrew says "HeHalutz" - the Pioneer - (the second H being that gutteral hchh sound). HeHalutz was a Zionisist youth movement, affiliated with the Labor Zionist movement, hence the particular hammer. Depending on which history one reads, it was either founded by Jospeh Trumpledor in 1918, or even earlier - 1905 in N. America. In 1915 the N. American branch was reinvogorated by David Ben-Gurion and Yitzhak Ben-Zvi who were then living in NY after avoiding arrest by the Ottoman Turks in Palestine. There were other "banches" in Europe and N. America until WWII.

As an organization it seems to have survived in fits and starts until after the establishment of Israel.

Where'd you find the pin?

Well, not directly related to the military.
The Halutz (that's what's written on the pin) was a socialist-Zionist organization that was founded by Joseph Trumpeldor n Russia in order to prepare Jewish immigrants from the SU to life in kibbutz so they can come to Eretz Israel and build one.

And what Kaplanr said.

Hallo Kaplanr and Moledet,:)

thank you for taking the time to reply to my questions,

and the information provided.

I am an avid collector of Military Medals and Pins, mainly of Europe but the

odd item from the middle East as well.

The pin was being offered for sale on line at Ebay, from a dealer in Bulgaria.

The same seller was offering this badge as well.

But not being too sure of what the pin was I did not bid.

Once again thank you for your time and information.

Now I capische. If you want to look for older pre-state items on E-Bay try searching Palmah or Palmach and Hagana or Haganah, and Irgun or etzel. I'm deliberately avoiding the term IDF because you'll too much garbage; t-shirts amnd the like.
