Israel OKs 1,300 new apartments in east Jerusalem
By Amy Teibel, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
JERUSALEM - Israel announced plans Friday to build 1,300 more homes in east Jerusalem, further angering Palestinians who warned ongoing construction threatens efforts to work out a peace deal by the end of the year.
The announcement by Israel's Interior Ministry brought to more than 3,000 the number of homes Israel has approved for construction on land that Palestinians want for a state since the renewal of the U.S.-supported peace talks late last year.
Israel insisted Friday that most of the building - in east Jerusalem - is on land the state has already annexed and thus it does not violate its commitment in negotiations not to build on disputed land. The comments by government spokesman Mark Regev suggested that Israel will not be deterred from further building in the city.

Word man, word.
So what's the big deal again? Jerusalem and especially "East Jerusalem" is what gave Jews their national, religious, cultural identity 3,000 BC and counting on. Ehud Barak is the biggest shcmuck in Israeli poltics for allowing this idea of 2 Jerusalems to be accepted as historical fact at Camp David negotiations.
A little advise to Mahmood Abbas, if you want to further solidify your Arab Palestinian nationality, you should consider making Gaza your Palestinian capital city because at least historically Greek Philistines lived in Gaza area not Jerusalem.

From a real estate point of view, is there demand for new apartments? Last I've heard people were moving out of Jerusalem for better opportunities in Tel Aviv or Haifa.
Is this still the case?
Can I, as an American, purchase an apartment in East Jerusalem and sub-lease it to anyone regardless of nationality, race, religion or ethicity?
(Not flame baiting, I just want to know about local housing policies)

It depends, appartments are very expensive nowadays in Tel Aviv (for a sh!t 60sqm old apartment you pay about 250,000$-300,000$).
Yes you can, even Saudis are buying homes and they can't really come here.
As long as the person is a legal resident in Israel there is no de jure discrimination to whom you can lease property in East Jerusalem. You have Israeli citizens who are Arabs, Jews and Christians living in East Jerusalem.

I suspect the housing costs are going up because of real estate speculation. I guess people want some of the high tech action and externalities.
There is a possibility that Jerusalem is becoming a suburb of Tel Aviv. How the traffic between the two cities?

Less than an hour by car if there is no traffic. In the morning it can be hour and half. There is also a train, also about hour and half.

Same as San Franciso to Sacramento.
Still too far for daily commuters. Need to speed up the train to make Jerusalem more marketable.
I still remember taking a taxi (with blue license plates) from Allenby Bridge to Jerusalem in 40 minutes (with one checkpoint at Jericho). And walking from Jerusalem to Bethelhem within 90 minutes and no checkpoints.

They are building a new railroad between Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv, it will be much faster than the present one (they are basically building bridges and digging tunnels on the straight line connecting Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem). But it will be ready only in a few years.

Problem with the train is its route, because the route goes around the mountains it has to travel slowly.

Good news on the train.
Perhaps they should sub-contract the rail services to the Swiss. They are known to dig tunnels to shave two minutes of running time to create an even 30 minute frequency nationwide. Thus creating seamless connections.
Sorry to digress.
I'm also a train nut.

Who knows , maybe when Peace talks ends soon or later The Palestinians will get these 1300 apartments for their own for FREE , like what happened in SINAI with TABA resort , Egyptian got good hotel and beautiful Resort for FREE :)
I told you my friend before , you can say what you want , and also I can say what I do want , and the future will settle this issue of Jerusalem , but today I can confirm that to you , Arabians/Palestinians and more then 1 billion Moslems around the world wont let you take Jerusalem the way you want or your politician dream about ..
Jerusalem is the land of god for all religions , if you can not accept that then the others wont .. the whole Moslems/Arabs world wont accept your sovereignty on their holy places for good ..
So back to reality ,
As I told you before that there is a peacefully solution all of us can live with / accept it that all religion to share Jerusalem under one temporal power , UN or whatever ...
THATS IF YOU REALLY WANT THE PEACE
Otherwise forget the matter of unilaterally Jewish sovereignty on Jerusalem , This will never happened , not the way you want ..and for sure you will not get it under peace talks shadow ..
Cheers :)

Your post clearly shows that it is you who dont want peace, because if you did you would have accepted Israel, and its sovereignty over Jerusalem, with no if's and but's
Why we refuse to divide the city or "share it"? because we cannot forget your behavior.
We cannot forget how your brethren deny our history, the sanctity of our holy places, our access to them, and lastly your denial of our humanity.
In Jerusalem under the Blue and White, Muslims, Christians and Jews can access their holy sites that are nurtured and protected, under the Red, White, Black, and Green only Muslims and a few Christians get this access.
Jesus was a jew, hence many christians accept our sovereignty over Jerusalem.
If your billion of muslims got a problem with it, go to Muslims Only Mecca and cry to your rock...

And since you mentioned the sanctity of the holy places , I want to ask if you have the same point of view against Mr.Sharon's visit to our holy site ( Aqsa Mosque ) and his attempt to desecrate it with his infringement . I hope the sanctity of our holy sites and humanity are included in your dictionary as well ..
Your brethren started the wars, your brethren lost them. period.
From your claiming that ( we started the war ) , Do you want to tell me that the Jews before/ after 1948 who in fact came from east Europe and Africa ..etc that they were actually living last 2000 years in Palestine and the Palestinians came from somewhere other planet ( the moon maybe ) and invaded Their country !
Any way ,
Mr.Flint ,
The only hope to change our future is by accepting our present and To learn how to forgive our past
But if you insist to live in the history/past trying to end its scenario the way our fathers used to , then it means to continue the war and forgot the matter of peace .. because i`ll think the same way you do in returned , its matter of dignity , and you can call me that Its you who does not want the Peace etc ..
One more thing I want to say ,
You do not know anything about me except that I'm Arabian / Moslem with neckname ( eurekaa ) and mostly there is another image in your mind which comes from our media or education in your place that tells you this guy behind the network mostly savage , barbarian , war / bomb suicide lover etc ,
And believe me that the exact same image we get from our media about the Israelis / Jewish people .. its the same way ..
These images are normal when there is a war and hostility flamed between nations , we still call each other " The Enemy " arent we ..
The same it was one day with Japan / United States and today its history .. just history
Well , We both are human being and I'm sure both of us are totally different from what we do think ,and this image is a BIG LIE that we live
Let me tell you that , I hope one day in the nearest future or next 2/3 decades that we meet personally and maybe Moledet would joing us as well and have a cup of coffee together at a cafe somewhere in Arabia / Tel Aviv or maybe Jerusalem itself remembering / laughing from our theories we'r discussing nowadays :)
who knows , maybe why not !

Maybe you didn't notice but this isn't a dictatorship, the people decide on major issues such as these not the prime minister or the government. He can draw maps and promise things all day long to the Palestinians, but as long as the nation doesn't approve this nothing will work.
As for Muslims not accepting and all that BS, again if you didn't notice Jerusalem is under complete Israeli sovereignty for the last 41 years and I still don't see millions of Muslims marching to Jerusalem. How come? Well, these are nothing but empty threats. The Gulf states won't risk a war, Jordan and Egypt like the peace treaty, Syria and Lebanon are weak, Turkey couldn't care less and the other Muslim countries are either too far or really don't care.

Rice: Construction in settlements a problem
US Secretary of State arrives in Israel for another round of meetings, upon arrival says Israel has not done enough to ease Palestinian restrictions in West Bank. Abbas plans to insist that Rice pressure Israel to halt all construction in settlements Associated Press Published: 06.14.08, 23:10 / Israel News (http://www.ynetnews.com/home/0,7340,L-3082,00.html)

As Rice arrived in Israel late Saturday, she appeared more exasperated with the construction than she has in past condemnations of announcements of building plans.
Illegal Expansion?UN to discuss proposal against Israel's settlement expansion / Yitzhak BenhorinSecurity Council expected to convene next week to discuss Arab-backed proposal calling for condemnation of Israeli plans to build 800 new homes
Full story (http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3555027,00.html)
Rice, currently visiting Israel and the Palestinian Authority for the 17th time in the past two years, said that the construction in the settlements is "a problem, and I think it's a problem that we're going to address with the Israelis."
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/unescape(this.href))plans to insist that Rice pressure Israel to stop settlement construction when they meet this week. "Especially the issue of the new settlement units will be discussed," Abbas aide Nimr Hamad added. "The United States should exert real pressure on Israel and not just make statements. That's what we'll ask for from Secretary Rice."
On Friday, Interior Minister Ze'ev Boim announced plans to build 1,300 homes in the east Jerusalem neighborhood of Ramat Shlomo, angering Palestinians. "Everyone understands in any final status agreement the Jewish neighborhoods of Jerusalem will remain part of Israel," Government spokesman Mark Regev said Saturday.
"Building in those Jewish neighborhoods of Jerusalem is in no way contradictory to the peace process," he added, but Rice disagreed. "This is obviously a roadmap obligation that is not being met," she said.

The UN Security Council is scheduled to convene this week in order to discuss a proposal calling on Israel to halt the expansion of "illegal West Bank settlements". The proposal, which has been pushed in recent weeks by a number of Arab countries, mainly Saudi Arabia, followed Israeli Housing Minister Ze'ev Boim's announcement according to which 800 new housing units would be built in Har Homa and Givat Ze'ev.
The US-backed Road Map for peace initiative and the Quartet call for the freezing of Israeli settlement construction, but it remains unclear how the European Union would react to a Security Council resolution against Israel. The US is expected to use its veto power to thwart the proposal before it reaches the Security Council.

It's not a gift from god we built it-there was no miracle done, just hard work.
Going by what is written in the bible we are probably quite a nation of sinners with what's going on in Tel Aviv and other cities but we are secular and god isn't around and there's no prophecy since Malachi.

That's the way it works, the way you pay for land is blood on this planet. Unless a greater military can push us away (with nuclear weapons that we allegedly posses it's impossible) than it's our land for good.
Obama is talking BS, his speech can be interpreted as him approving only west Jerusalem and not united Jerusalem-he's more than welcome to go f*ck himself, he isn't going to be president.

Well Mr.Flint ,
Do you know whats our problem here !
Its that both of us do understand each other very well , and I know exactly what you do want and dream about and its the same to you :)
People from Europe and the west maybe wont understand the things between the lines in our conversation these me and you read ..
Unfortunately the Peace dream it seems well come after a disaster of huge destruction and ruination in our area ..
Dear Mr.Flint ..
I do not blame you for you theories and dreams about Jerusalem and other stuffs , I understand you very well , and I can not blame you for your legacy/culture , you did not write your history with your hand so I blame you .. Its your culture / history and this is the education you get in your country ..
And its exactly the same at our end , we also have our own culture and dreams , and its always like this our culture and history and religion comes first and our principles deserve what we are givin and the price we are paying ...
so do not blame me in returned , actually we must feel pity for each other somehow , its really pathetic
You are not a bad person , neither me .. there is no bad / good here , its our legacy .. but you should agree with me that its always welcomed if we try to discuss these issues the civilized and modern way ..
You said your point of view and I mentioned mine .. I have nothing to add because there is nothing to talk about and this is the problem .. even if it does not work .. we'll not change the word's mentality
But I appreciate your reply and comment exposing your support to Sharon's desecration/infraction of our holy site ( Aqsa mosque ) .
And I believe that most of Israeli people share you the same vision , which confirm to us that your claims of all Moslems and Christians are welcomed to visit their holy sites in Jerusalem under protection of Jewish state to the holy city is just claptrap and illusion and you`ll never ever respect our religion or our holy sites for two reasons :
1- its against your religion believes .
2- Your religion will always come first , you'll not hesitate to confiscate Moslem / Christians's holy and archaeological sites if got doubt that it has something to do with Jewdism history and such stuffs.. etc
and we have many examples for that if you want me to list it for you ..
Any way ,
Good luck for both of us with our dreams

I disagree, and I'm neither Palestinian, nor Christian, nor Jewish or Israeli. Members of my family are Christian however, and have visited Jerusalem. But I trust the Israelis to let people of all faiths go to these sites. I don't trust Hamas or Al Fatah to do the same.

I found it, John 8:47
The demonstration from a christian point of view that you (?) are not the chosen people (not anymore) so you have no right to call this land a gift from God.
Bring and Use the name of Jesus for your agenda in this conflict is just disgusting.
Let me give you a couple of clues.
1- The text of what is called the "New Testament" have been changed several times by the "Holy See" through successive Councils (Nikea, Trento, etc). You have even changed the original text of the "Our father" (The Sermon of the Mountain). If you can change the words of G-d and of His son, thatīs because your leaders, that have modeled what you think and how you feel (yep you have been brainwashed) are more transcendental than G-d and His son.
2- Is John referring only to the jewish people? Because the first followers of Jewsus were all jews, before the Romans saw the potential of the "new religion". Look at this way, if youīre believing in a wrong(ed) version of his words, then youīre the first to not really believe.
My agenda is the quest for the truth, which I donīt possess. Youīre free to refute me.
