The West Australian June 1 2004
South Australian cricketer John Davidson returned one of the best bowling performances in modern times when he lead Canada to victory over the United States in an Intercontinental Cup match in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Off-spinner Davidson finished with match figures of 17 wickets for 137 runs, after his first innings haul of 8 wickets for 61 runs, was capped with a magical second innings 9 wickets for 76 runs. He also made 84 runs.
The US was dismissed for 126 runs on a wearing pitch, chasing 230 runs to win.
Davidson's figures were the best first-class figures since Englishman Jim Laker's 19 wicket haul against Australia at Old Trafford in 1956.
He is only the second man since WWII to takee 17 wickets in a first-class match.
Bet you didn't even know the US had a cricket team or Canada for that matter.
