A D-DAY hero suffered a fractured skull after being pistol-whipped by armed robbers.

Former Navy diver Jim Morris, 81, was battered at a William Hill shop after collecting winnings.

He was hit by one robber as another demanded cash from the bookies in Chelsea, West London.

Brave Jim — who cleared mines 60 years ago — dashed after the men. He said: “It’s not the first time I’ve looked down a gun barrel.”

Even though the article was so throuroughly in depth, I didn't see at any point in its entire intruiging length that stated it was a real gun?

I guess the only way we would know if it was real was if the poor guy had been shot!
The guys were armed period!

Father is shot in front of family

A 41-year-old man is fighting for his life after being shot in the head at close range in front of his family.
Police said the man was involved in a violent confrontation with a group of about six men in Tottenham, north London, at about 1330 BST on Sunday.

The confrontation began after what police called a "parking incident" involving a stolen silver Mercedes in Meridian Walk.

A red Rover car arrived at the scene and a man got out and shot the victim.

Police said the man's family, including his children, witnessed the "horrific assault" which began after "a local dispute escalated into this tragedy".

The group of men, described as black and in their late teens or early twenties, ran off along Pretoria Road.

The Rover, thought to be an M registration, is believed to have been driven off in the same direction.

The Mercedes was displaying stolen number plates, registration S356 ADJ.

'Absolutely devastated'

Det Ch Insp Neil Basu from Operation Trident, which investigates gun crime in the black community, said they have had a good response from the community but need more information.

"The man's family, including some of his children, witnessed the shooting and are left devastated at witnessing this horrific assault," Mr Basu said.

"The victim is of previous good character and has never been in trouble with the police.

"We believe the incident started over a local dispute, which clearly escalated into this tragedy."

Mr Mullings' brother-in-law Shawn Douglas said: "The family are absolutely devastated. We can't really come to terms with it."

So what exactly are you trying to do with your post?

Initially I thought it would be about the insult and outrage of robbers assaulting a D-Day veteran.

Now I assume your going to start preaching the goodness of American gun policies and how we should all adopt CCW? Again.

Hey, I posted it because he was a D-Day Veteran, you're the one that turned it into the fake gun thing!
As far as American gun policies and CCW, I'd say there's no poiint in beating a dead horse! but American Patriot made a good point!

Well aren't we all grown up using big words :P, like I said I didn't bring up the CCW or American gun policies so thank Shadow Neo for that!
As far as leaving the UK, what's that got to do with the price of fish?

Ooh, shifting the blame to me then? I was simply stated that the article didn't mention if they were real weapons or not - there have been countless situations like this where the robbers have used fake weapons, and what do you want the UK Government to do about that, blanket-ban on Airpistols and BB Guns?

You are the one who brought up a shooting in another incident, apparently trying to provoke another argument about gun control.

You implied it wasn't a real gun and down played the whole situation, as far as I'm concerned the guys got allot more oommf than some, he recieved a fractured skull and still gave chase.
It shouldn't matter if the gun is real or not, the threat is there for the victim to believe it is!
He's what Heros are made of!

Have you ever had a gun pulled on you?

Me bringing up the other article that was to highlight how daft it was trying to downplay what happened to the old boy!

Regarding what the UK government is doing with fake or real firearms, they're doing what they believe is best for the people and I'll leave it at that!

I didn't try to downplay the situation at all. I did somewhat mock the fact that the article isn't exact the most detailed piece of journalism I've seen, and as such is leading people to draw their own conclusions and "fill in the blanks".

As for having a gun pulled on me, no, and it is highly unlikely that I ever will have. I am safe in the knowledge that there is less of a chance of someone having a gun than in certain other countries, and I am happy to continue living this way.
