Hi all,

Was given this belt by a friend, apparently its for ALICE webbing, but does anyone know who makes it and what the name of the belt is? Thanks :)

It looks like a (possibly civi) shotgun shell carrier belt. Or something similar made by someone like Blackhawk, Eagle, etc.....

Looking at the stitching quality and consistency it might be custom to a purpose, the loops look too large for ALICE clips. My 2 bobs worth...

looks like an early version of a british PLCE belt. the little compartment bits on the belt are for attaching pouches

cheers for replys guys.

I can tell you the slots are too small to even fit a rifle round through, let alone a shotgun cartridge, so no to it being a shotgun cartridge belt. It's also not a 90 pattern plce belt, firstly the belt is too large for the plce pouches to fasten around, and its also too padded. The 90 pattern plce belt looks quite different aswell.

I have a few ALICE pouches, and they do fit perfectly in the slots without flapping around at all. If anything, the slots are too good a fit and it is actually rather difficult getting the alice clips into them.

I can also say that the belt is not a custom job, just very worn, hence the dodgy looking stitching.

Anyone any other ideas, maybe just a name so I can search on ebay?

thanks again :)

Seconded. It's an Arktis composite belt.

They now make a DPM version to go with PLCE.
This version came out either very late '80's or early '90's and was an 'out of your own pocket' replacment/upgrade for the 58 pattern belt.
Its basically a small hip pad with a length of 2" web strap (same stuff as RAF cargo straps, the type that have a roll pin buckle attached) stitched along its length, with 1" gaps in the stiching for attaching the 58 pattern hooks. Made a great belt kit if you binned the kidney pouches and just went with ammo and lots of waterbottle pouches.
The fastening is a quick release 50mm 'SR-50' side release buckle (should say Basingstoke, England on the buckle) with an extra 1' of tightening strap. Very comfortable.

Here are pictures of a similar item in my possession which I picked up in the 1990's.

Belt Buckle is marked ITW NEXUS, there is a Ink stamp on the belt but I cant make out what it is.

This belt has had little or no use from what I can tell.

It looks like a standard PLCE belt of the type used by UK and some European forces since early 1990's. Only thing that looks different is that the male end of the buckle along with the strap for tightening the belt are on the left hand side of the belt, I've only ever seen them on the right.

Hallo Monkey,:)

thanks for the information, the "canvas" webbing is quite stiff from having no use, I suppose it could have been assembled the wrong way round?

If it is PLCE then it will be a stiff nylon webbing. Waterproof, rot proof and easier to decontaminate than the pre 1990's canvas varieties, that tended to absorb any available moisture and shrink. As for the buckle on the wrong side, they are fairly easy to swap around, so I suppose a previous owner just had a personal preference.

I well remember earlier issue webbing, I started off in 1976 as a recruit in the Irish Army using ex-British webbing stamped 1944, had to be blancoed every evening, ready for parade and inspection the next morning and then a couple of years later we moved onto the 58 pattern.

Being right-handed I actually find this buckle easier to open in this configuration, perhaps thats the answer?

Again thanks for the info.
