Lets look at some similarities and differences between Islamic World and Western Civilization of Midieval times and Today.
MEDIEVAL TIMES:
Western Civilization:
Mostly uneducated and poor, full of hatred and prejudice to anyone different from them. Majority of people have superstitions and are xenophobic to other people.
Live mostly in rural areas. Intolerence toward Negroes and Jews. Absence of knowledge, disrespect for books and people of knowledge is wide spread.
Local (uneducated) parish priests in medieval churches through out Europe call for Holy War against infidels and call to "claim back" Holy city of Jerusalem that is in the hands of infidels.
Eruopean "Crusade" pillages centers of education and trade of Jews and Muslims in the name of God.
Islamic civilization:
The peak of prosperity. Empire-like state, governed by tolerence and respect. Exstensive number of laws and judicial system established.
Even though some prejudice still exists - Jews and Negroes live freely among the enlightened nation without fear of persecution.
Mosques located next to synagogues, and science and technology more advanced comparing to the backward Medieval Europe that still comming out from dark ages.
Jewish and black entertainers met with cheers across Islamic world.
TODAY:
Western civilization:
Kinda like Islamic civilization of Medival times.
Advanced, relatively prosperous, with significant centers of knowledge, education and science. Tolerative to other religions and customs.
Islamic civilization:
Kinda like Western Civilization of "Crusades" time.
Dark minded, intolerence, ignorance and xenophobia - wide spread. Lack of advance technology and education among population. Absence of strong centers of education and science. Poor economic conditions and medicine. Absence of strong civil rights and legal judiciary system.
Strange how world flip-flops every thousand years or so...

who knows, maybe in a thousand years we will be dumb as big log...
history tend to move in spirals, and dark ages tend to repeat once in a while.
Remember Greece? it had its Dark Ages after some great prosperity.
Same with Rome and of course Europe had a dark ages while noone really wrote anything in particular... same goes for Indians, Maya... Aztech... and then silence and primitive lifestyle.
If we bet on future cultural and technological centers/empires - I put my money on China or India. But then again maybe its going to be Africa or Latin America.. or Moon by that matter. We're gonna be truely Old world (Old Planet).
By that time America will be in stagnation, decline and very old like Europe... empires as countires have their own life cycles and biological clocks.
Well yeah... now we are young and fresh, and like teenagers we eagerly picj up fights with bad guys... give us 300 years.
We gonna be like France, too proud of our past, unable to admit to ourselves our place in world politics. old pride!... aaaaah...
while we fight with those bastards in Middle East, someone spend their time, money and effort on economy and development.

Interesting concept, and one I recall being talked about in a College History Class, I'm sure many Historians, and Sociologist have written about it...I can't remember who at this time. But Society does seem to run in a pattern.
And one that no past Nation or Empire seems to have been able to get away from.
For example:
I just watched an intresting US documetary on the Iraninan youth, and students, and their frustration over the Religious oppression in their country...its only a matter of time before there is a political, and cultural paradigm shift in that country.
well i always see that circle in which we always come full around, not sure what it is, maybe a balance of chaos to some and normal living to the others, or just carefully controlled chaos...... ying yang in every cuture and its periods.

Its called sarcasm.
To say the whole of the Arab/Muslim world is getting dumber, is pretty much a racist statement.

The 'dumbness' is endemic. If you improve their country, give them democracy they can prosper.

nah if there are democracies that are poor they need to be rich, and rich from oil, then they will stop being so xenophobic.

I guess that's the jewish view on world history. It isn't mine for sure.
Islam or arabic culture was influenced by an educated elite for a couple of hundred years. That's it. Then they went back to their original state.
