I would be glad to help you. I'm a civilian paramedic/U.S. Army reserve combat medic, current nursing student, however I must ask what you need this information for. If airsoft, or re-enactment I will not help you out because saving lives in combat is not to be treated like playtime. If your airsoft "unit" needs a medic then find a real one. If you are a healthcare provider or wish to become invloved in medicine I would love to help you out. Ask away!.

well, first of all I don't even care for all that airsoft crap. I am only 13 years of age. and I am involved at a local fire station. so I am curious as to what kind of gear you would carry during combat. I would like to know because in the future this is a possible job I would like to have. and I would like (if your willing) to see pictures of your equipment so I can just have an Idea of what you would be required to carry on you into combat. :)

Michael:

The answer to what a medic carries isnt cut and dry. It will greatly depend on the mission he is executing/supporting as well as the unit to which he belongs (ie: Infantry, Artillery, Cavalry, FAST, etc). The previous two tempered with the knowledge and experience he has gained will also help in determining what he will carry.

There are plenty of pics here of medics/corpsmen if you would but you the search button. There are also pics of them hidden in other topics which have little to do with the medics themselves, but more so the kit of the soldiers around them.

I understand you are young and full of questions. We can try to field some of them, however you have a few years before you will be in a position to follow the career path to become a medic/corpman. Given this I would suggest you do well in school (especially math and science), become active in sports (if you arent already) and enjoy your teenage years. You would also do yourself well to start reading everything you can here as it relates to combat medicine. Many of your questions will have already been asked and answered.

Hope this helps.

USMC corpsmen.

They don't exist.
All USMC medical support staff are Navy.

Type USMC IFAK in Google. You can find a lot of related links.

For example: http://www.armyproperty.com/Resources/NSN-Listings/IFAK.htm

Or you can go here to find some. http://www.narescue.com/

Since you are only 13 years of age and are involved at a local fire station. I think above info should be sufficient to you. Cheers.

Did you read my post above?? If not read it; if you did, read it again.

While I am all for helping a young guy out I am not going to sit here and type out everything carried. The information you are asking for will do you no good.

You have two eyes/two ears yet one mouth for a reason...

Read more/post less.

Okay, Michael.

I am not American, but I used to be medic in army.

Medics first aid kit typically includes following:
- First aid bandages in three sizes (large, normal, small)
- Regular bandages.
- Cover bandages.
- latex torniguets.
- Triangle cloths for supporting arms.
- neck supports.
- band aid.
- desinfection fluid.
- Ringer solution and possibly plasma expander (when i was in service that was proposed part of kit, not sure was it approved), for dealing with extreme cases of dehydration and blood loss. And other related equipment.
- Chemical warfare antidotes, athrophine.
- Pain killers (okay here medics didn't have that when i was in army at least on peace time. instructors said that it may change... not sure about that.)
- Aspirine and other basic medicines.
- Lacrymoscope (can't spell it right, I know) that thing you use to keep tongue away while intubating.
- intubation tubes.
- stetoscope.
- Emergency stretcher nets, add any suitable pole arms (tm)
- scissors
- Light with head band, it's useful to see in dark, but theres always light discipline to think about.
(In anti-tank platoons [My job] and pioneer [pile ******s, mine slaves. combat engineer in american english] may add some trash bags and brush) :D

All that in medics back, some countries have specialized load carrying vests for medics. In addition that theres always stretcher.

That pretty much sums up equipment of platoons medic. (atleast m05, m62 with it's stamp sized medics bag is well limited.) Platoons medics is quite simply to give life saving first aid and prepare patients for transport to next step of casualty evacuation process.

I don't buy it. Maybe the part in bold is true, but your questions are the same as all of the other airsofter's questions.

Okay, I don't at least purposefully undermine your comments and my spotty memory can fail me, but I gave little effort to explain roughly what medical equipment first aid kit here does include.

To completely explain what medics do in army I could suggest kid to go army medic course, but it little bit too early for that. Off course there are lot responsibilities that medic has that aren't combat related, and i could add medics primary quality is being responsible and loyal to his fellow service men and women. And most of all work of medic varies lot based on position in medical organization of military, theres huge difference between job on for example battalion level aid stations crew and platoons medic. But main thing is same to serve our fellows in need and save their lives to best of own abilities.

The point was he should be concerned with other things (school, girls, sports, friends, etc) at 13 y/o, instead of seeking a combat medic/corpsman's medical load-out. I was working under the presumption that he was truthful and isnt another airsofter who wants to hump around a bunch of gear trying to look cool...when he obviously isnt.

I was attempting to redirect him when you popped up with the "here ya go, I will spoon feed the information to you." That being said, it is a BBS and you are more than within your right to interject. Just try to be a lil more cognizant when you see someone trying to do the right thing and mentor someone... If he truly is interested in becoming a medic he needs to become self-sufficient and now is a good time to start.

my 'box and .02... YMMV

listen i'm not one of those airsoft punks who "wants to look cool" it's a stupid hobby if you ask me, plus we're too poor to afford all these fake guns. besides why would you want to buy a fake AK-47 for 1,000$ when you could buy a real one for less.

Not that it matters but if you're paying $1,000 for an airsoft then you're paying way too much unless it's something like one of those airsoft miniguns. Besides, the fun thing about airsoft is that you can something like an AK-47 and shoot your buddy with and not have him wind up in the hospital or the morgue and you in jail.:)

Suffice to say that any combat medic/corpsman is going to be humping a lot of medical stuff like bandgages, basic meds, scissors to clothes, and from what I've seen, a weapon.

Dial down the attitude junior. 13 year olds by definition are punks. Why don't you concentrate on growing some body hair for a couple of years before you start worrying about getting "Doc" as a nickname.

It has/had nothing to do with being nice, neighborly, or welcoming to new members.

It has however about maintaining order and providing sensible, intelligent answers to questions based on real world experience as opposed to hearsay or posting info read elsewhere on the www.

I'm sure there's an opening on a Pokemon forum somewhere. Do you always whine this much? You're a kid, your opinion doesn't count. Listen to the advice of actual real adult soldiers and don't presume that you are allowed to behave badly because it's the internet. Act as if you were in the same room with them and act accordingly.

Michael, Michael, Michael, you non-punctuating, run-on sentence writing, typing-like-I'm-texting little dim-wit. The guy you dissed is a moderator. His job on the site IS to monitor discussions and make sure they stay within the rules of the forum. To wit, he is supposed to tell people what they can and can't do; which is what he did with you. You are a guest at this site, you have no right to be here. If you come back from your vacation with the same attitude (that is a bad one), you'll be banned.
