I have an old arc welder that I'm not sure runs, but I have a guy who asked if I would be willing to trade for two rifles.

Here is what he said about them.

ruger 7mm mag with scope #78697386 this gun is like fiberglass stock and end ...for hunting in the weather ...heat or cold doesnt change anything about the way it shoots all the metal on it is ..silver .. remington model 710 with scope 30.06 with scopethis is a new model ...been shot maybe 5 times ..its synthetic ...blued barel in new condition ... these are both in excellent shape ...i paid $1000.00 just for the ruger ...and then i paid 750 for the remington ...

I have not seen them yet, but I asked the guy to bring a couple rounds so I could fire through them, see if they shoot straight.

The welder's value...since I don't think it is running and might take a little work is around $700 as it is now I would guess, running around $1200.

You think this is a good deal or no?

Have you looked at who manufactured the arc welder. IMHO they are not worth much. It was TIG, a small unit new is about $1600, TIG unit will also arc weld.

A decent small shop MIG is about $700 new.

If you don't weld and the welder is not working, I would think the rifles are a excellent trade (depending on condition).

I think a non working welder for 2 good rifle is good. I think the Remington is worth around $300 new, it heavier than a 700, and comes with a scope. I don't know much about the ruger.

If you miss the welder, you could always shoot the guy with one of the rifles and take it back.

If you have no use for it then trade it.

just looked up on line, the 710 is worth no more than $320, it been replaced by the Remington 770, which Remington list a $452, but I seen sold around $350, in local stores. I like the entry level rifle, comes with factory installed scope. weighs about 1.5lb+ more than a 700. Still a good rifle.

Yeah I'm not a welder. It is a Lincoln arc welder (I believe it is also a generator but it is an old model), quite big on a trailer. I have absolutely no use for it. Had a guy offer me $500 and said he was going to take it to Mexico. Then this guy said two rifles, seeing as how I don't have one. I have it listed for 7 but somehow think if I even got 5 I would still come out on top.

I put a call in to the local Sheriff's dept. to see if they are clean.

Ok cool. I actually don't know much about deer rifles either. Always fun to buy/sell/trade in things you do not understand...

My guess the Ruger M77 is stainless steel barrel, it should be worth around $400 used, these are very good rifles. as for the scope, I don't know. you can pay more than the rifle for a good scope. My Remington 700 has a scope that cost about the same.

Yeah I think it is stainless from what I can gather. So, I'm guessing in total the rifles should be worth the $5-800 range. That is not too bad for an old welder, from my perspective.

Police called back and they ran clean so I think I am good to go.

So the welder in question is a bloody big diesel DC Generator? They're worth a fair bit, of course it all depends on operational capacity and age. Got any spec's on her?

Wouldn't help as I traded her today. I think I got a good deal but it was gas power. The rifles are in so-so shape, looks like the guy did not take good care of his stuff. I imagine they're around $300 each, maybe a little more for the 7mm mag. I gave the 30.06 to my brother and I think I'll keep the 7mm, shoot it a bit and eventually sell it as I don't have a rifle.

We have one of them at the farm, very handy when needed, also have a petrol one. But if you are not using it, probably a good swap.

Yes, it sat out in the weather for a good year or so too. I believe the exhaust was covered for all or most of that period of time.

I will try to get a picture up of the guns. I think I remember how to do pictures on here.

I will also try to get out to the "ranch" and fire the 7mm a bit this week.
