I've always loved their up gunned Sherman. Shame they never used the T-34, would have loved to see what they would have done with that, or a Panther. Maybe they'd have fixed its suspension problems.

The first IDF tank was not the British Cromwell.
You forget the Hotchkiss H-39 tanks captured from the Syrian army.

You forget the Hotchkiss H-39 tanks captured from the Syrian army.

AFAIK, this tank was left by Brits when they left in 1948. There was some story about Hagana stealing it, but I'm not sure...

This tank, BTW, is on the IDF Armored Corps beret patch, so I guess there is a good reason for this.

I have a doubt :
In 1948, the Israelis have captured some Renault R-35 from Syria.

But where come the Hotchkiss H-39 ? From France ?
