What is it with the Federal Opposition in Australia? I saw Malcolm Turnbull on Lateline tonight ; I normally have a bit of time for him, but tonight him and his parties obsession with a 5cent/litre fuel excise cut $hitted me off. Now, if you buy 100litres fuel a week it means a $5 saving. WOW! A whole five bucks! The same $5 that will be chewed up in price rises before long, anyway! Get with it, guys and keep up the heat on Labor regarding 'computers for schools' and other money wasting crap.

I have nothing good to say about the current Liberal party. It is muppetdom of the highest order. I was once a Liberal, but let my party membership lapse when they started doing weird ideological things. They were in power for 11? years, and basically did nothing at all, except kept the economy running - which frankly wasnt that hard with India and China buying everything we have in the ground for the next 25 years.
They had a real opportunity with control of both the House and the Senate to make some really good changes. But they didnt. There are no statesmen left it seems, just greedy opportunists who say anything they can to get them through to the next election.

Well let's see what Rudd does. I'll be surprised if on a practical level its any different. It will just be without the ideological obsessions of the Liberals, and replaced with Labors own ideological obsessions and backroom deals for the Labor mates.

You serious? They get to see you in spandex!
Seriously, absolutely nothing and Turnbull's 5c a litre cut is false economy and a pie in the sky of the worse kind.

Something seriously needs to be done.
Fuel issue aside things are pretty ****ed up at the moment. Rents and house prices are way out of control. I was in a decent job in Sydney but where I lived there was no way in the freaking world could I have afforded a house or rented on my own as a single bloke. It's nuts
They want to build a new rail line in NSW to connect Melbourne and Brisbane. Hello NSW has more rail lines then any other state combined.........Oh wait the Liberals under Griener and the Howard ARTC let that go to **** to. Real smart
They build a road tunnel underneath Sydney's CBD. When badly needed subways are needed. ****ed that one to.
Newcastle is booming at the moment and the CBD is in the process of being revitalised. What do they want to do? Close down the ****ing rail line that goes into the center of the city. Smart move
Mate both political parties need to get their ****ing ass into gear. Newcastle put in a bid for both the subs and the Anzac frigs. They go to states where elections are coming up in seats that look like changing hands.
Government spending here is all about short term popularity and no bastard is doing anything to fix things for the long term. Both Menzies and Curtin would be rolling in their graves now what the ALP and Liberal parties have turned into.

Nothing, but most kids have computers at home - so why the crazy 'one computer per highschool student' crap? A waste of money, in my opinion. Better to spend the dough on healthcare or something.

We had computers at my school - they were usually used for accessing games and **** during breaks...
There was an attempt of teaching object-oriented programming with C++ on an optional basis - 20 or so were interested - 5 stopped coming before even the first lesson and 5 more after the first lesson - after half a year the project was stopped because only 2 wanted to continue...
Some teachers tried to justify the purchase of the computers by taking us there during a lesson to research the internet for information... needless to say all that was done was playing games, downloading mp3... and ****... :)
Computers for schools are BS without a good reason and a plan to actually use them...
For research and work nowadays everybody has a computer with Internet at home anyway - those who don't have access to a library and schoolbooks which is more then enough for school.

Where I grew up there would be less then in 1-20 children that would have access to a computer let alone the internet man. Lets be real here. Most occupations now even industrial jobs require some form of computer literacy.

Agreed! We are becoming more dependent on road transport - you only have to travel for 15minutes from Toowoomba and you will find disused railway lines. And why don't we make more stuff here? Why do we buy so much that we can do ourselves? I work with electronics and I see too much going offshore - the quality goes down, the price goes up, the retailer makes more money and the government sits on its hands and watches it all happen.

Exactly!
It's all about profit for the fat cats. A company loses millions a year and they sack the CEO with a severance package for not doing his job!
You or I **** up where out the door going to the dole office

That's why I am self employed. I can't be sacked unless I go broke. But I can go home for a shag at lunchtime if I want to - without permission. p-)

You're 7 years older then me - these things change very fast.
I think it would make more sense to subsidize a computer purchase for families with small income so that they have equal chances to use one as you have said many jobs require computer knowledge.
Speaking from the experience I made computers at school are rarely used for serious work - it's just too inconvenient.
Only exception is if you need access to special machines - like our graphic designers who need a network of extremely powerful machines capable of sharing the workload of rendering CG film sequences... but we're already talking about university here...
Unless there are also special classes that use the PC's there's no use for them - even for the purpose of teaching basic computer skills you don't need that many of them either.
Schoolboys looking for ****? That happens? I would never have thought!
are you serious? ;)
I remember this one guy bringing hardcore **** magazines he found in his parents room in grade school...
then later when we were 14 or something a guy shared his big brother's **** DVD's with half the class (including the girls ;) )
Yes, there is big interest in **** for many kids... even before puberty where there shouldn't be an actual interest in *** - just because its forbidden.

Aussie-land sounds just like Yank-land...housing costs are out of sight, transportation (fule)is sky high, public transportation totally sucks, government out of control, the yobs and squanks all get free she-it handed to them with tender loving care at my expense and I get nothing but more taxes to pay. Hmmmm...
