I have read that the british made Jackal patrol vehicle is being purchased for the ADF. How will this be used in the Australian defence forces and how many will they get ?

And will they be mainly for use in the SAS and Norforce or spread throughout the ADF?

Is there anyone who has photo's of what the Australian model will look like as well ?

Norforce is only a third of the RFSU force. You're forgetting the Pilbara Regiment and 51FNQR.

It's like referring to all the Battalions in the RAR as 1RAR. Wrong.

Anyone know why they aren't getting Bushmasters? I guess those things can take more punishment (not mention dish more out when specc'd up), but damn people, the Bushmaster has aircon! Proper aircon, and not just the wind in your face!

31 to be ordered according to the DMO site^.

Ours will be designated the Nary, after Dave Nary who was killed a couple of years ago during vehicle mounted training with the SASR.

The bushmaster is a massive bit of gear, it doesn't fit the small quick mobile profile required of a reconnaissance vehicle.

Yeah good point.

Ahh now I've made the connection, had heard about that we were getting a new vehicle to be named after SASR digger. Great work.

Yeah I know, but I can get away with it here!

Still great to see he's being recognised like this.

Is it me, or is this vehicle seriously lacking armor protection for the occupants? Given the usuage of IED, RPGs etc isnt this vehicle lacking in todays operational environments???

Not trying to troll its a sweet looking vehicle, just the lack of armor concerns me.

It's as well protected as an LRPV. Think of the vehicles role, then think if it can be achieved if the vehicle has to have several tons of armour added.

Recent footage of the british pathfinders with their 'jackals' (has been posted before). Hopefully the vehicles prove better in the long term than what is shown in the news footage ie. issues with reliability and centre-of-gravity.

Am what? So one of them broke down and rolled over when it was being towed on a slope. That is no big deal really.

You can't make such a statement based on a few seconds of news footage.

You don't know what is wrong with it. Its being used over some pretty harsh terrain. It obviously wasn't that serious as by they are not towing one in the following clips.

I've seen Supacat Extenda on Eurosatory and I must say that this is very nice, flexible, tough and good pice of machine. And on this news footage one can see how Jackal is perform in raw, difficult terrian. And Jackals has armour and mine protection, produced by Jankel. Jacka is good choice, I wish that polish special forces has no such vehicles.
