Is there an official name or designation for the 3 color desert camo top that most of the special forces guys wear? I'm talking about the ones where the hip pockets are removed and sewn onto the sleeves. I'm trying to Google it but don't know what to google for. Thanks!

No, it doesn't have a special name. It also went out of service for most units several years ago.

Isn't it the same top that **** and the rest of Deuce 4 were using before they were issued the ACU's? Where they just took the pockets off and moved them for better functionality?

Maybe you are thinking of the so called "RAIDS" BDU

the one in the pic could be a "CCU": same cut of the ACU but in 3desert camo.
btw the uniform with pockets moved to sleeves is called "RAID BDU" as already said by Flanker7

Three color desert is simply called the tricolor pattern.

I have no idea, ask ****. I always thought that these uniforms were regular DCUs that were modified by a tailor, not some special issue kit. I don't think I've seen anyone wearing them since 2005 or so.

OPSGEAR labels this type of blouse as a TRU (tactical response uniform).

That's what I was thinking.

Most of those were simply custom done by tailors for individuals, moving the pockets up on to the sleeve. These have been regularly done at tailor shops near navy bases for 10 years or more, as the SEALs have been using these modified tops for quite a while.
As posted above, some companies took on doing these modifications (you had to send them 2 tops to get one complete one IIRC) on a more widespread basis.

SF, or any other SOF unit that I know of, hasn't given them a name. They are simply mod'd DCU's in this case.
When it started we simply removed the large lower pockets and had a rigger, or other sew shop, sew them to the sleeves. Now that its cool to look like a SOF soldier, and its more functional, there are companies who have put a name or two to the mods but those names apply to their brand and not the modification of the uniforms themselves as noted elsewhere here.

Go buy a DCU uniform and take pockets and put them on the sleeve. Slap some velcro and your good to go :P.

In 2001/2002 we were issued the DCU's...went to the riggers at Bagram who moved the bottom pockets to the sleeves and added velcro for glint tape. During that time all the ones were custom jobs. After 2002 a lot of companies started to make a vesion of the DCU with the pockets on the sleeves.

A good example for the commercial practice Waterman mentioned can be found here:

Adwert of MCCU and ACU made most of these BDU "rehaulings" unnnecessary, but still there are some slight changes, reinforcements ect done to the new stuff on the individual basis - seachr Lightfighter for some tips.

CU and CCU were issued to some stryker brigade units out of Ft. Lewis in 2004-2005. It is possible that some SF units got some, but I am really not sure.
But, what a lot of SF do, is they modify their DCUs. So, there arent really standard, they often vary.

WTH difference does the name make. They are mod'd DCU's and are nothing special.
SOF units have been mod-ing them since before 9/11. Someone decided, since SF/SEALs are doing it lets make some money off selling them to the guys who want to look cool...
Jeez you guys can get spun up about the simplest things...

We called them "hadjified" DCUs. pretty much everyone took a couple pairs to the sew shop on their FOB and had them do that, cost all of 10 bucks. I never heard them called CCU or anything else. We also had some DCUs sewn in the pattern of the ACU prototype (rank over left name take, couple other changes that didnt get picked up) which we still just called DCUs. Only people who wear anything like this now are navy EOD, pretty much

See sales section.
A good friend who was stationed at Fort Lewis with the Stryker brigade were testing that style of ACU bdu-2003?, I don't recall if there were any special names for it.
