KABUL, AFGHANISTAN: The bodies of five aid workers shot dead by suspected Taliban guerrillas in northwestern Afghanistan are transferred from a UN helicopter to a waiting international peacekeeping force ambulance in Kabul, 03 June 2004. Three Europeans and two Afghans working for the Dutch branch of Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) died in Baghdis province, considered one of the safest areas in the country, on 02 June when their unarmed vehicle was attacked by two assailants armed with a Kalashnikov and a pistol. NAJAF, IRAQ: A US soldier lays out hand grenades bought off Iraqi civilians in the ground of the police station, in the holy city of Najaf, 120 kms south of Baghdad, 03 June 2004. Some 30,000 US dollars worth of arms have been bought up, including 200 rifles at 100 US dollars each, 50 mortar rockets at 200 US dollars a piece, and nearly 100 rocket-propelled grenade launchers also at 200 US dollars a piece. Special offers of 150 US dollars for each StG44. A similar arms amnesty took place in the Shiite Muslim district of Sadr City in mid May. Najaf and nearby Kufa have been the scene of heavy fighting between militiamen loyal to radical Shiite Muslim cleric Moqtada Sadr and US troops.

Lt. Col. Alan G. Burghard Sr., commander for 1st Marine Division's Government Support Team, pays out cash for a cow the Marines bought for an Iraqi farmer. The farmer's cow was killed in the crossfire between Marines and enemy forces weeks ago and left him without the dairy products he needed die to a medical condition. Marines, with the help of Spirit of America, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization, bought the farmer a three-year old dairy cow already producing milk.

ARTA, Djibouti - Marines and soldiers supporting Combined Joint Task-Horn of Africa look on as a French commando sniper fires a PGM Precision .50-caliber sniper rifle at a target more than 600 yards away here May 31. KABUL, AFGHANISTAN: The bodies of five aid workers shot dead by suspected Taliban guerrillas in northwestern Afghanistan are transferred from a UN helicopter to a waiting international peacekeeping force ambulance in Kabul, 03 June 2004. Three Europeans and two Afghans working for the Dutch branch of Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) died in Baghdis province, considered one of the safest areas in the country, on 02 June when their unarmed vehicle was attacked by two assailants armed with a Kalashnikov and a pistol. So far this year some 20 aid workers have been killed in ambushes and attacks across Afghanistan.
