A friend once said you can never own enough 22's. This thread is dedicated to all the 22 short, 22 Long, 22 long rifle, 22 WRM and 22 Mag. pistols and rifles in our collection.
I will post some of mine soon. First ones will be a Winchester 1890 pump 22 WRM and a 1906 Winchester gallery gun (pump).
So go ahead and show them.

Words typed in caps lock is the internet equivalent to shouting so it is generally good manners to not type with the caps lock on.
On to business. I have a Savage bolt action in .22lr, a Hungarian trainer single shot bolt action with a very heavy barrel in .22lr, a Ruger 10/22, and a Ruger MKI pistol in .22lr. It my not be chambered in .22 but I have a NEF single shot chambered in .17hmr with a heavy barrel on it and she shoots like a dream :)
My belief is that one can never have too many .22s ;)

We have a 1960s model semi auto CZ/Brno in .22lr. This by australian standards is rare as it is a category C weapon, and thus restricted to normal people. Luckily im not normal (as we have a farm and can get a C class license)
My father purchased it when he was in his 20's and i learnt to shoot on it. It still shoots like day one. Ill take some pictures when i go near it next. I have a stirling 14p .22lr as well, but they are a dime a dozen so i won't post it.

Here's a picture of a Nylon 66. I am away from the digital camera so I googled it until I found the color.
It's a great little weapon and it's been in the family since, well, 66.
When I received it from my father it still has the glue residue left over from where the price tag was on the stock. It's in MINT condition.

Not really a gun that I have, or have a picture of, but I still highly recommend it.
Sig Sauer Mosquito.
It's really nice to fire and it's a whole lot cheaper putting the rounds through that one instead of through a 9mm or .45.

Good idea on this thread. It is sometimes really easy to forget about the old 22.
This is my first firearm--Savage Model 24. It is a .22 upstairs with a 20 ga. downstairs. I was given this after finishing the NRA firearm safety class over 20 years ago--I think that era is now known as the Cretaceous Period. I imagine I haven't fired this since well before the last ice age. I might just have to get some .22 ammo.

Wow. I didn't know they were being made--the only others I know about are in the MP.net threads. Do they still make the 20 gauge models or only .410s?
At any rate, I think it is a great first firearm. Single-shot rifles/shotguns are great for learning how to be patient!

Savage still makes them, and I belive both 20 and .410 under .22 LR
or at least they are still sold in hunting store here

The main thing i remember form my first .22lr was that i couldn't get a scope, until i could head shot everything with open sights. That is, i had to stalk and position myself.
I will teach my kids with scopes, but the importance of a clean kill will be drummed into them at the same time.
Heres a point, we have had a number of 22 magnums of the years. I really like the calibre, but not the price of ammunition. The discrepency always amazed me.

This doesn't pertain to the .22 half of my first firearm, so I'll make it quick story (this is a .22 thread). I remember when I was bird hunting with my dad and his friends, they would empty their auto-shotguns at every flock that flew near. Man, they would burn through ammo (my dad had a break-action Browning o/u 20 gauge). Having the single-shot 20 gauge meant I had to be more selective! Sorry for the slight diversion, but your stalk and position story reminded me of that. Having said all of that, I like to burn through ammo, too!

It is a Josef G. Landmann Preetz model 65 semi auto rifle. They were made in .22LR and .22 magnum calibre. It was very popular in Germany in the seventies before it was banned as an "anscheinswaffe" a gun that looks like a military weapon. This ban has recently been revoked BTW so they are regaining popularity there. Some groups in Germany and Ireland used them, converted to full auto.
The receiver is made of zamac, barrel is removable. Furniture is easily changed, pistol grips for front and rear are available, as is a civilian looking wooden stock. It is a nice plinker. :)
This is my Argentinian Made Bersa, Model 24. I was instructing a few things to a friend
Bought it a couple of years ago, used, but good as new!

A forty-year old Anschultz Savage Model Match 64 with a really old Unertl scope. I normally used the match grade iron sights, which is why I didn't bother removing the front sight. It didn't matter anyway, as the Unertl focuses beyond the front sight and sight picture isn't obstructed. This rifle is still stupidly accurate.

I Really did not like it because for some reason once in a few shots when you close the bolt it Prematurely Fired when the Round made contact with it..

I'm not exactly a RedDot expert, however, it's fun as heck for speed shooting on my Ruger. There's a ton of light settings and it's hard to go wrong at the price anyway (around 20$). I'd say go for it, it's neat as all heck.
Here's a picture I just took for the coolness factor.

Strange...never happened to me in the years I shot it...as it always functioned properly...even when not cleaning it. I guess there was something wrong with the bolt on the rifle you fired??

early model sucked (FTF, FTE, etc)...newer ones are better. There is also a guide online with little simple tricks to improve the reliability.
I've seen pics of cracked slides (made of pot metal) on target models..maybe caused by the slide hitting hard on the compensator...
the nice thing about the P22 is that it come with a thread barrel which make things easier if you're going to mount a sound suppressor.
anyway, Browning BuckMark and Ruger Mk-series are way better IMO.

I'm looking at picking up a .22. Maybe something like a Walther P22? Can anyone offer experience with one, or advice on another .22 pistol? It depends on what you want it for. While overall .22s are quite small, there is a large variance in the size within that group and i would say 3 basic styles - mini full size - like the P22, then a top break "tip up" like the Beretta, then the revolvers .
Like always, Cost , Size and purpose would be the best way to break down your choices if you decide to get a .22

Could it be that due to overheating of the bolt, there was some dilation of it, causing the premature fire?

.22's are all kinds of fun to shoot, I recently shot with a .22 that is patterned off a Winchester Lever action model with a tubular magazine. What a fun thing to shoot.

i will second Frens comments 100%...including the ruger as a much better way to go. p22 will get boring in no time, where as the ruger is still in use amongst seasoned shooters after years of ownership.
