SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir (CNN) -- The top Indian elected leader in Kashmir resigned Monday after weeks of protests that have left seven people dead.
Azad announces the reversal of a controversial land decision in June.
1 of 2 Some assembly members had expected Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to ask for a vote of confidence and he seemed to surprise everyone when he announced: "I am resigning."
Azad made the announcement during a 90-minute speech to a special session of the state assembly.
During the speech Azad focused mostly on his efforts to bring peace and normalcy to the troubled region during his 31 months in the post.
Kashmir -- a predominantly Muslim region that has seen frequent battles -- faced a new wave of violence when the government announced last month it would transfer forest land to a Hindu shrine board that manages an annual pilgrimage.
Muslim groups protested the move and clashes erupted. When the government announced it was canceling the planned transfer, there were more clashes -- this time involving Hindus angry at the cancellation.
The news agency Press Trust of India, partly owned by the Indian government, reported Monday that a seventh person died from injuries sustained amid the violence -- a protester who had been wounded in a grenade attack during a rally.
Government officials have also said 400 people were injured in the violence.
The People's Democratic Party (PDP), a key alliance partner for the region's ruling coalition, announced that it was withdrawing its support.
Some members of the assembly expected Azad to seek a vote of confidence in the wake of the PDP's decision.
Kashmir is now likely to be placed under gubernatorial rule before elections for the next state assembly in October.
Both India and Pakistan control parts of the 86,000-square-mile region of Kashmir.
The two nations have fought two wars over the region. China also controls a part of Kashmir.
For the past 18 years, Kashmir also has been wracked by a bloody separatist campaign.
Authorities say 43,000 people have been killed in violence. Some human rights groups and non-governmental organizations estimate the death toll at twice that figure.

we should start a thread of military in Kashmir, show cool Indian/Pakistan military, videos of the gate closures, and that beautiful country side.
and it would have quickly turned in to a place sorrounded with print outs of your avatar.

the Jammu & Kashmir cant be sloved without an all out war.
cause both India and Pakistan cant let go of the land held by them and no one can take the risk of negotiating and giving up their claim.
no matter how many talks both countries carry on with.....both are not willing to let go what they hold!
FACTS!!
what you say MG3?

Exacto! India and Pakistan both have their own issues. We are not willing to make Kashmir a free country or give India a friendly border with Kashmir. India will have **** loads of problems if Kashmir cedes, they have other insurgencies that will then see light at the end of the tunnel alot brighter brighter.
BTW we all know that once Kashmir rolls over we will have a "Sikh-land, Hyderabad and what not". We will manage to find something because it will be in the worlds interest to push us around against each other.
Just look at BD. They were a good neighbor to India but with foreign influence things are going down hill there too.

Thats what i hate, people barking about what they dount know, they just copy **** frm the net and post it here and there..
Actually jamuu and kashmir has a special article known as article 370,according to this artical no person from any part of india,no matter how influencial he must be,cannot purchase land in kashmir and cannot apply for a kashmiri state subject( which i luckily possess).Although a kashmiri is free to buy land any where in india. Also the jammu and kashmir state has a amarnath shrine board, which takes care of the annual amarnath piligrimage, actually the PDP government in 2005 leased some land from pahalgam to the shrineboard for construction of some permanent shelter for the piligrims, fearing that the shrine board has quite a influence of VHP vishva hindu parishad,BD bajrang dal etc,the pdp when gave the poer of government to congress under mr.gulam nabi azad, the pdp started making it a political issue as the elections are due in october,so the pdp kind of fuel all the separists parties like hurriat and all and stated that kashmiri land has been sold to outsiders and all....gaining the popular support of almost all the muslim people as it was a matter of religion, all the musilms were against the land transfer to amarnath shrine board, although majority of them didnt knew what actual deal was,as congress reversed the land transfer order and the cm resigned as he was caught in all this political-o-religious dilemia, srinagar the summer capital was completly shut down for 8 days(and i was fckd up in my home),after his resignation its now governers rule again....

Do tell me how?
It is simple MG3, you go against the govenment or the writ of the nation state in any armed or violent way, you get thrashed back to your senses.Wehter it is Bugti or Yasin Malik Now lets not go back to the whole who is right and who is not, when it comes to India and Pakistan. Its a never ending circle, and I think your position in that matter is full of crap, and I am sure you think the same about mine. The way Pakistan has been treating its minorities, especially non-punjabis is just depolorable. Pakistan has used the Islamic card to make them not see what is happening to them. Just like Taliban has been able to do the same with Pakistani population. Ground realities will remain the same, India is not interested PoK, Baltistan, Gilgit and other areas of former Kingdom of Hari Singh. All the while Pakistan cant even take an inch of Indian territory. Make no doubt LoC will be become the IB, it is already a defacto one now. Future of Pakistan is bleak, and I see this Islamic Fundoo thingie going on for some more time; and then it will be all over. ISI blowing up trains and market places are not going to change the resolve of Indian populace or the world community.

"FUNDOO" I love that word and the way its used by Indians.
You are right lets not get in to the Kashmir apocalypse debate.
The Non-Punjabi crap is all BS. While I do agree that we have been unfair to religious minorities.
I do not go against the writ of the govt in a revolt. I just follow the simple human nature of supporting the side i see better.
India's resolve has not yet been tested since you have not faced an enemy like the Taliban. Its was terrible what happened in India over the past week but looks lke the evil has reached your borders too. We shall be closely watching how india deals with this.

Yes, I all for Bugti..the little one is starting new ruckus, his promoters in Oman and UAE are going to be real happy.

Evil has reached and jumped over border for the past 20 years. And Pakistan has played a serious(if not all) part in it. Indian resolve has been tested, and India is not going to bomb its civilians to death. Pakistan's play with fire all the way from the time zia, is dis-integrating the idea and nation state that is Pakistan. The problem with Pakistan is, they have their feet in both the boats, They combat terrorism while promoting terrorism. You are in the water, about time you sink. Or somehow changes your ways and the worlds lends you the hand you desperately need.

Yep its all BS. If the Baloch population was so anti then why doesn't the BNP win in the elections. Its all media hype created by the west and funded by India. Not Oman or the UAE since both were told to fvck off a few yrs back.
Oh now broda. This "IF" it is the taliban or AQ then you folks aint seen nothing yet. Well the govt does not support extremists but support does reach them through other channels. These days India is the biggest tgt for several countries who are in to the insurgency supporting game.

Honest Elections in Pakistan, Dont jest me.
If you dont know about how much AlBalushi's in Oman ( some of the emiment personalities of that community who I know personally), and their interest in Balochistan for ethnic and other reasons; then you are shooting yourself in the foot. UAE has their eyes set on Gwadar.

Just because you are getting your ass's handed out to you by the Talibunnie's(caused by disillusionment between Islam and Nation state; which resulted in mass infiltration of Pakistan army ranks and mass defections) doesnt mean insurgents in India or any less vicious or lethal. Havent you had enough 1 Pakistani = 10 Indian craps. Not that I expect anything better.

I hate those decorations.
Nice, I would love to. If I'm not wrong then those are Kraz 6x6 and sadly Kraz arent allowed to be sold in Pakistan so the only Russian trucks we had here were Tatra 813Kolos now being replaced by MAN TGA450-8x8. But the question is what role does the Indian army use these trucks since the look like special equipment because of being LHD.
