need more info, as in, are these hat wearers from the countryside? if so, where?
what ethnicity?
Worst come to worst, I have a blow up crocodile you can borrow as a quick distraction if things go sour...
Not much info available. They are college boys (from Sydney if I am not mistaken). Party will be at local club with planty of medieval sword available around, will that work against their weapons of choice?

well, most likely woosy pretty boys who wear Dundee hats because they need something to toughen up their image. For a normal wide brim hat wearing Aussie I'd say the weapon of choice would be a pig sticker or .303 Bayonet, if not the .303 itself. I reckon this lot would be lucky to know how to use a steak knife properly, let alone wield a sword, so you'll be right.
their weapon of choice will be smart edgy social commentaries and witty cynical remarks, which is easily countered by a punch in the nose.
Howeverm if they are bigger than you and fairly athletic, Have a RUgby/AFL ball on hand, if it gets rough, kick it one way and run in the other direction...

sydney college kids - so probably more into the pre-mixed sh*t, likely to love the girly drinks, you know, Vodka with pretty colours and stuff.
We laughed a young digger out of the pub last weekend when he rocks up at the table with two cocktails - its a dingey sleezy pub, not a beach resort in the Pacific, idiot.

I hate smart edgy social commentaries. Especially from leftist college green boys. Thatīs the reason I hope for some "old" school types from Austria (I am optimist maybe...). And I donīt like to run from fun. Friendly match are welcomed, not encouraged.

its a good place, for the real Aussie experience, GTFO of Sydney, Sydney is not Australia, its nothing like the rest of the nation - go to small towns and old settlement areas for a bit of history and culture. Aussies in the country are very welcoming and friendly (as a general rule) and always up for a chat and a beer, especially if you are from a foriegn place. My mother has hosted a range of people on the farm, a Japanese Cyclist - travelling the 1000km from Melbourne to Adelaide by bike, an Italian -doing the same, and a young Austrian girl who she found hitchhiking and took her in before driving her to the next town a few days later. thats just the recent ones. they all stayed on the farm and were fed for free and all actually did some little jobs without being asked to do it or expected to help. I guess thats gratitude :)

Thanks for posting this. If I ever get to Austria it will be not for Cities but countryside. I discussed this here some time ago. I live in a country where you canīt get lost (not literraly) there is village/town behind every tree. Australia is very attractive for typical central european as it has image of wild country and beautifull countryside. If only time would be available for such a trip.

We agree re: ID cards being a blight on personal freedoms. Still makes me giggle that a lot of the so-called "liberal" countries of Europe have laws demanding you carry ID around. There'd be a revolution here if the Australian Govt. tried to perpetrate that shyte. We tolerate a lot of horsecrap from our Govt. (like anywhere else) but being forced to carry ID on you would be going over a line.
Re: doing business? We have a points system of ID when it comes to doing things like buying houses or cars on finance etc. Show things like your driver's licence, phone bills, wage slips, passport, etc, to prove identity when getting loans and hire purchase etc. To get a licence, you just need to prove who you are and where you are resident. Birth certificate or passport proves the first and things like phone bills, power bills, rent receipts etc prove the latter.

yes, in townsville they have a running track through the park - it used to be utilised by drunks playing the Wack-an-Abo game, so I am told...
basically, your mates drop you at one end of the park, you belt an abo with a cricket bat and run as fast as you can to the other end.... where your mates hopefully are waiting in the car. Never played it, but seeing as Townsville is AJ central, I believe it
on a more serious note, theres a nice running track in a park near Melbourne CBD - just south of it actually - that attracts some "nice views"

As far as we are concerned, racist name calling is a two way street.

basically rewarding kids for being black... or 1/8 aboriginal, with red hair, freckles and blue eyes and no distinctive aboriginal features... so the other kids see this and what dya reckon they feel about it...
the nation is allowing rasicm to find its roots early by not creating equality in the places its most needed, where our next generation is educated.
Inequality breeds racism, especially when you see people collecting money for no other reason than they are Aboriginal / of aboriginal descent, and yet your mother works 2 jobs to keep you and your brother in a house and with food in your belly and clothes on your back.

if you qualify for it you can still get Automatic weapons.
I reckon its better this way, when you look at the As Shabaab monkeys who wanted to Shaheed at Holsworthy Base, if the gun laws were looser, they have had the arsenal available. however they had a hard time getting semi/auto weapons and didnt want to crack on with bolts, the gun laws prevented them obtaining these weapons, so I accept it.
I enjoy my bolts anyway. I either cull pig/roo/rabbit/fox... and bolts are enough. Or im stalking Deer (or deer eyed women) and its a one shot job.

yeah, they take blokes up to 50 years old... idiots.
however, I do know a couple of men in their late 30's who've shown up the younguns...
youre not too old for the ADF mate. However, alot of people hear "Leb" and are immediately pissed off.
That is because the young lebanese community seems to be balls deep in criminal activity, if you came here you'd be better off steering well clear of Sydney and big communities / Lebanese youth groups - unless you want to be part of that ****, and therefore be hated like they are by pretty much all of the country. Sydney has had too many problems with Lebanese youth gangs, bikie gangs and other sh*t for this to be funny. They've made a name for themselves and unfortunately that'll make it difficult for a bloke like you to start out.
"Leb" is also synonumous in Australia with being bashed by 30 cousins who convinient wait in cars nearby for the mobile phone call from a very provocative and overly confident young lad, rats tails and stupid slits cut into sideburns, dressed to the 9's. When you manage to one on one these pricks, they cower and cry like whipped dogs

No dramas Paully, its an unfortunate thing, but if you get on with the job and distance yourself from these types of people, Aussies will accept you, they might look a bit suspicious to start with, but when you show you are willing to learn what it is to be an Aussie and adapt to Australian life, people will accept and defend you from criticism. I have no dramas with anyone who comes here and puts in, to make this country better and accept how we do things here. Of course we will listen to suggestions of how to improve, but when some rock up and then tell us we are wrong, set up a little muslim caliphate in the suburbs and go against our laws, I take offence.

Success in sport is all about money and structure, it should be no surprise that a significant increase in spending from grass roots to elite level has equated in a distinct upswing in fortune. It has also accompanied a widening of cricket's appeal in England from a strictly upper middle class sport to a sport for a wider audience (coupled with global initiatives like T20 cricket).

I don't think it is that at all, he's just in a form slump (he is lacking belief in his strokes, looks edgy for the first 10 overs, trying to play forward and getting caught when he used to let it go)- Lara had one, Tendulkar had one etc. The quality of the man will be shown if he can bounce back like they did.
P.S the wider appeal will melt like the winter snow if you guys start losing like you used too ;)

Not a huge fan of T20. It's OK to watch but it's all about slogging more than anything else. No real tactics or anything involved.
I suppose that appeals to the masses though.

I think for class players like Clarke and Ponting, it really ****s them up when they play T20 and it takes them time to get back into the swing of things, so to speak....however Tendulkar manages just fine with all forms of the game, so it's no real excuse.

Not likely, everyone's just cottoned on to what the social elites kept quiet; cricket is one of the few sports that is open to fat drunk ****s. What's not to like?
It is more than form for Ponting, you're focusing on his presently dismal batting. His Captaincy was woeful throughout; set poor fields, poor bowling rotations, chucking a fit when things weren't going his way. Ignore the fact that England reached the final of the WC in '07, and our rugby team reflects what someone has said about your cricket team - you just can't replace genuine, World Class players and 'once in a generation types' overnight.
The Botham's, Hill's, Senna's, Thorpe's, Maradona's only tend to come round once per generation. Australian cricket had probably four or five at one time - in the same team! Anything that followed that was going to be truly up against it.

I'm a Test match kind of guy, used to sit round the radio with my Grandad and have never looked back. However, a day out at a T20 tournie can be pretty awesome. You could see four or six teams featuring some of the worlds best cricketers in one place. Plus, like all forms of cricket, it involves beer and picnic hampers. Which equal happy days.

It's always the same though, our Rugby team went through it a little bit as well. I think genuinely the only team in the world at any sport that continues to replace class with class is the All Blacks.
I think the attitude of the whole team sucked during the Ashes, we have become the England of yester year, can't bat, can't bowl and can't catch. Englands fielding I thought was outstanding and the fight was there for all to see...Michelle Johnson should also focus more on line and length than sledging when he is getting pummeled to all corners of the ground.
Its a double blow for me as well CMN, I was born in Scotland :(

Holden(GM) and Ford for passenger/family cars. However toyota is getting a bigger slice of the market each year with the whole Hybrid thingo.
As for 4wds its pretty much Toyota and Nissan with the majority, with Landrover/Jeep/Mitsubishi etc etc being less sort after as they generally dont handle the conditions as well as Toyota or Nissan.
In the cities there is a growing mentaility of getting a euro car to do the whole 'my ****s this big' casue i can afford a highly complex and Impractical car thats going to break down and cost me sh*tloads to fix thing.

Pretty popular, a lot more respected than Steve Irwin IMO. It was pretty big news when it happened.
He was more unknown here in Germany, but alongside Rob Bredl, i found him to be far more entertaining and educational with a more serious style than Irwin shouting and jumping around in the bushes. Loved his dog.

Even MD compared Steve Irwin to a used car salesman, trying to sell everything down the camera.
They both did wonderful things for the interest of wildlife though and that can never be a bad thing regardless of the styles in presenting it.

A good news story from Down Under.
http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/offduty-officer-disarmed-knife-wielding-thugs-20110113-19pqg.html
An off-duty police officer, formerly of the organised crime squad, used his martial arts training to disarm four attackers in Claremont early Monday morning.
The men were wielding the wooden handle belonging to a tomahawk-style axe and a knife when they approached him on a footpath leading away from the Claremont train station.
The 49-year-old officer, who stands about 198cm tall and weighing 120kg, was able to fight off his attackers and was relatively unharmed, with only minor cuts and bruises.

They're not taking on to many permanent residents these days. Pretty much need to have your citizenship first, or have an in need skill with prior service as a SNCO or Captain and above officer.

Depends on what you define culture as. As artists, AC/DC have probably done more than everyone else, Hoges, Mel Gibson, Russel Crow and Jackman have all sold a lot of movie tickets, we've had some decent opera singers, Dame Nellie Melba and dame Joan Sutherland spring to mind, but most of us would probably think our culture is more the beach and sport, we've got boat loads of top line surfers and sporting stars, Don Bradman dominated a team sport like few others ever, he was like Michael Jordan time 3 in his sport of cricket. Margaret Court won 62 Grand Slam tennis titles, Heather McKay was undefeated at squash for 20 years, winning 16 British Opens along the way.

I mean going from T20 to tests and ODI'ds to tests takes more mental application and discipline. Obviously having to hang around and bat longer, watching the ball more and selecting which one to hit. All of which the current Aussie test team is having a lot of trouble with.:)
It is easy the other way, just hang the bat out and try to wack everything. Watsons inning in the 1st T20 the other night was good example of breaking the shackles.
