What the hell is it with you Aussies and these "Pisco Sour" drinks? This Australian girl I am dating thinks they are to die for. I ordered the booze online, took 2 weeks to get here, now I find out I have to beat egg whites and other complicated **** to make one proper? WTF kind of high maintenance cocktail is that?

I'll jump in here. THAT ain't Australian. It's Peruvian. I know because I saw a bottle of it in an Salt Lake City liquor store and I read the back fo the bottle. Sounds like too much work. Tell her to find a new favorite drink.

...um... Then again, I'm single, so I don't have girlfriend to make drinks for. Something on the rocks, though, with splash of something else or maybe a fruit garnish. That should be good enough.

I know the liquor is Peruvian (I did order a bottle of the ****). However, this particular female seems to insist that a pisco sour is all the rage, was her favorite drink. Maybe just in Perth....who knows. I know how to make 'em, just a major pain in the ass. I suppose she's worth it.

If you haven't appreciated a cold Swannie after a day of hard graft, there is every chance you're a bludger and maybe even one of those homos from Sydney mentioned earlier, some would go as far as to say anyone residing South of the Tweed or North of the Murray is to be considered suspect...

Gday Guys

I have started this thread to assist non Australias with answering their questions about Australia.

For example, we have animals such as Quolls, trees such as Banksias, and beer such as XXXX, and Crownies. Further, words such as bogan, bevan, yobo and grouse.

Feel free to ask away.

Is it true that young Austrailians are called Vegemites? I overheard a young Australian fellow one day singing about the good old days when he was one of the "happy little Vegemites". Are grown up Australians also Vegemites or is it just the little ones.

It was from the jingle for vegimite and it kind of stuck as a reference to children:

We're happy little Vegemites As bright as bright can be. We all enjoy our Vegemite For breakfast, lunch, and tea. Our mummies say we're growing stronger Every single week, Because we love our Vegemite We all adore our Vegemite It puts a rose in every cheek.

Probably Rick Charlesworth, he played 227 games for the Kookaburras, picked for 5 Olympic teams and Captained his country. He coached the Hockeyroos (4 time champions trophy, world Champions, 2 time Olympic gold medalists and Commonwealth gold medalists) and is the current coach of the Kookaburras.
He was also an opening batsman for Western Australia, playing 47 first class cricket matches for an average of 30 and has been a high performance manager for the Fremantle Dockers (probably the worst football team of all time) and the New Zealand Cricket Team (a bunch of Nevile nobodies who are still sooking about a bit of perfectly legal underarm bowling back in the 80's).
Towards the end of his playing career he was also a member of Parliament for a decade prior to the start of his coaching career.

What is a muzza? some guy is going around a website saying he is a muzza but even people from Australia are asking what the hell it is

Definition Of A Muzza . Source:Urban Dictionary

A muzza is a young male, usually of European or Middle Eastern decent (even though they've never been there), that are born and raised Melbournians.

Baseball caps are constantly worn alongside hair product, but to make sure they dont wreck their hair the caps sit on top of their hair (and away from the fringe). Bum-bags are a must to hold all your mobile phones, and also some change to spend at maccas. They all wear trakke daks, Kappa pants or addidas three stripes & the pouch part to the bum-bags are always worn frontwards infront of their junk.

They walk like they're trying to immitate a scarecrow, or like they're holding a bucket of water in each hand (with a subtle swaying motion) This is often a result of going to the gym once or twice and thinking your lats are so huge you cant put your arms straight down your side.

Common hangouts are Bell St maccas,St. Kilda Beach, Highpoint, Watergardens or any other Hungry Jacks 24hour store carpark and most commonly Chapel Street South yarra...When communicating, a muzza owns 4-5 different sim cards to take advantage of the cheap call rates deals offered by Telstra, Optus, Vodafone and Planet 3

Language: Almost every sentence a Muzza says will include several of the following words;True, Uleh, Re, Bro, Cuz, Lan, Scarn-On, Fully Sick, Thats Hectik...

Muzzas are often highschool dropouts currently doing apprentiships, with every cent they earn going towards their cars (mostly on tires and petrol), and they end up wondering why all their bros who went to uni end up driving mercs and picking up chicks while they stick to their teeny bopper

you can buy it in supermarkets in Australia - Coles carries it at times.
the commercially available stuff is produced in outback NSW (it think) and utilises hunters who "harvest" from the multitudes in the outback.

the greatest selling point of Roo meat, besides its exotic status, is that it is low fat and protein rich.
Despite this, it is not widely eaten in Australia - It looked like the local supermarket only stocked it for me at one stage.

Vegemite. Proudly made in Australia since 1923. Proudly.

For example, we have animals such as Quolls, trees such as Banksias, and beer such as XXXX, and Crownies. Further, words such as bogan, bevan, yobo and grouse.

Feel free to ask away.
Ok, I have a few questions.

-Is fosters beer crappy there too, or is it just the time it takes to get here that makes it skunky?
-Do you feel kinda goofy saying "happy new year" while wearing a pair or shorts?
-Who's more Auzzie, Paul Hogan or Steve Irwin?
-Being that you're down under, does the missionary position there mean that the lady friend is actually on top? And, while we're on that..
-Are there any hot aborigine chicks?

This is correct. Nobody drinks Fosters. We're not crazy, we're Australian.
When I was a lad we'd say: "VB thanks mate".
VB was the acronym for Victoria Bitter. Although made by the same company as Fosters and also swill VB was the accepted social norm for an Aussie male (****ounced OZZY for the septics).
Once the cognoscenti decided Fosters was acceptable no Australian would be seen dead with it.

I had to look up the term. The only place I found a definition was in the urban dictionary:

seppo

A derogatory term for Americans, originally a word play on "yank" rhyming with septic tank, shortened to "seppo". The term became popular among the British and the Australians around the time of WWII, when American soldiers were staged in both respective countries on the way to battle in Europe and Asia. At the time, the populations of both countries greatly resented that the Americans were able to seduce their woman with such ease. Not having much recourse, they lashed out the only way they could, creating silly derogatory terms.

Lads, we see fit to put posters of Bikini clad girls holding Fosters in Finland, why not VB? Last I saw the Finns love anything Aussie, so they'll lapp it up p-)

However, we should promote Bundy, indiscriminate violence would rise all over Europe.. its a good thing :)

Mining is huge in Australia, lots of resources, but Dig can fill you in better on that than me.

We have a car industry down here. There is a bit of ship building, construction industry, but it's mostly mining and agriculture as far as exports go.

I am going to be working at a summer camp where a lot of Australians come over to work as Counselors. How do I seduce Australian women? I am gonna imagine that wrestling a Croc is the normal way of seduction in Australia so I'd have to do the opposite to impress her with my foreign ways, so ****ing a Croc would be acceptable right?

Know about the drongo and drop bears. I will never understand Aussie Rules Football, I am not even gonna try on that front. I am also going to avoid trying to make them say "That aint a knife, this is a knife..."

The alcohol thing is universal... I am gonna ignore the advice on visiting down under, but will assuredly convince someone else to try that down-under line. The slap he receives will be well worth it.

And to get back on track, what are the best skiing resorts in Australia? :)

BLUE THOR
04-13-2010, 05:22 AM
the best ones are located near the Victorian High Country (border between Victoria and New South Wales) Mount Hotham and Mt Buller are fairly popular.

pocoloco
04-13-2010, 05:24 AM
And how popular is skiing there? Beats fighting crocos, at least in my perspective but is it sporty enough for the Aussies? And any ski jumping facilities over there?

BLUE THOR
04-13-2010, 05:28 AM
yeah, it is popular. there are some winter sports facilities around, but our ski season would be lucky if it was 2 months long, and its a fairly small area that gets snow. There are some indoor artificial ski places, and they are a popular novelty in Summer.
Its Australia, anything resembling sport is popular. Even more so if you can place bets on it.
