There's this stuff that takes out your body-hair sold in the Finnish "TV-shop" called "Nad's" or something along those lines...
The commercial says that the Nad's- cream is 100 % Australian made and all, doubt that it's the case anyway.
So, I'd say "Nad's- the 1st body hair removal cream straight from Australia!"

I heard the new GTO is made in OZ. And they have some pretty sweet Holden autos. I know they make (re-make) a version of the asstastic Cadillac Catera into a good car that is better in terms of performance than the BMW M5.
In terms of military gear, I have no idea.

OZ has the V-8 supercars(Holdens and Fords) series, thats pretty interesting to watch. I think those cars are all supercharged? (correct me if im wrong) Makes some pretty good entertainment when drinking beer.
Also there a Hyundia (spelling?) pony-truck that was also made for Australia.
P.s. Vegimite does suck.

I can tell you something that Australia does create, some of the best Infantry and Special Forces soldiers in the world. ;)
Just because you dont see much of our stuff over there doesnt mean we dont make anything. Take a trip over here and I guarantee you'll find plenty of Australian made items on the store shelves. Half the stuff probably just isnt exported.

We do keep a few sheep around for all the KIWIs who leave New Zealand in droves to live in the luck country. :P
We do make the Pontiac GTO, although the Yanks at GM do butcher the front to suit their tastes.
The V8 supercars are naturally aspirated. The boys are racing in China and New Zealand next year.
Our biggest drama is keeping our brand names in Australia. Vegimite is owned by the yanks, most of our beer companies are owned by overseas interests.
We do our own version of the Canadian LAV, We have stopped making the landrover varients and I think we are looking for new replacments for landrover and unimog (I don't see a need, both are excellent vehicles). We make our own Austeyr and minimi. We tried to make our own submarines, according to who you ask they are the best things since sliced bread or are the most useless bits of kit ever made. They did have a lot of teething problems and are way over budget and behind schedule, but I think they are starting to perform.
I would say that we are more of a primary producer than an industry based economy. We do make a lot of things but we produce more raw elements than anything. Gold, iron, diamonds, natural gas, nickle, ect. I think we produce 30% or 40% of the worlds wheat and wool, we also produce a lot of beef.
There is always a big push for us to buy Australian made, but stuff we make ourselves is a lot more expensive than something made by our northern neighbours.
The government is trying to get a free trade agreement with the US, which will help our primary producers, but will have a big impact on other sectors within the country. It will be interesting to see how that develops.

Well everyone has a bias on the best looking girls in the world...in fact I got a hot one laying in my bed right now so I'll make this quick. A: Im dissapointed that the V-8 supercars series is naturaly aspirated (carbourated for idiots), I assume they are still rear wheel drive.
B: everyone says they have the best beer in the world (except americans they know they have weak ****)
C: the gto's look slick, I dont think they sell them in North America
D: Vegimite does suck, I'm glad you guys dont make it.

The above picture is from the docks in California when GTO's were being shipped. Due at a dealers in the USA this month.
This car is way cool, but what I really want is the car Holden exports as the Caprice SS in the Mid-East. Chevy canned the Caprice in 1996 after three memorable years of putting out an Impala SS package in that body style.
To sum them up quickly. They rock.

I like their wine, their women and their big open spaces. All the Aussie IT people I've worked with have been top notch, I guess you could call them an export although most are on "temporary loan" :) They dont do pubs the way the Brits and the Irish do pubs though and they dont do a bangers ( sausages ) the way we do. And they dont do warm beer.... ;)
I must mention CSIRO ( Commonwealth Scientific Industrial and Research organisation ) - who do premium work - built their own satellite, lot of top notch work in pharmaceuticals and vaccines , biotechnology and the like. They're here allright.

The V8 supercars are fuel injected, good for around 450 KW, rear wheel drive, about 2 or 3 hundred kilograms lighter than a normal falcon or commodore.
We make vegimite but we don't own it. It's good on toast :D .
The GTO is being sold in the states, but not as many as we would like, or probably as many as the market could take.

Not Australian by birth but lived here awhile.
Australians were locally making the L1A1 SLR in Lithgow, as a variant of the Belgian FN (FAL) rifle. The SLR was used by some Australian troops in the Vietnam war, a shortened version was developed also (3" shorter) and used by the SASR (I'm not sure which book but one of Gary McKay's books detail this - great Australian historian!).
Australia is currently making the Steyr up in Lithgow under license to Steyr Mannlicher AG.
Also the Minimi, which is based on the M240 (I think), and a .50 cal.

A lot of things at my place are labeled "made in China". ;)
However, as previously stated, primary products make up the bulk of Australian exports. Livestock, farm produce such as dairy, minerals:
http://www.dfat.gov.au/geo/australia/tradingnation/images/share_world_production.gif
Australia has also exported:
- wine to France
- chillies, chilli sauce and salsa to Mexico
- bamboo surfboards, skateboards and wall panels to Japan
- Peking Duck to China
http://www.dfat.gov.au/geo/australia/tradingnation/growth&diversity.html
- a few military equipments:

Other motorcycle champs that Deuterium may be familiar with:
Mick Doohan (http://www.mickdoohan.com.au) and Wayne Gardner (http://www.waynegardner.com)
Other things Australia is known for:
tourism - wildlife (kangaroos, wombats, koalas, platypus, dingos, crocs, killer snakes & spiders, flies the size of bees), the outback, curved sticks that you throw and flies back, hitting you in the head, beaches, indigenous Australians (Aborigines);
film production - Mad Max, The Matrix, Star Wars (the newer ones), The Thin Red Line, Tom Berenger's "Sniper", Priscilla Queen of the Desert ;), etc. were produced here;
some Aussie celebs (who are being exported) - Nicole Kidman, Elle Macpherson, Geoffrey Rush, Naomi Watts, Kate Blanchett, Mel Gibson (actually American, but learnt his trade here), Eric Bana, Russell Crowe (New Zealand can have him back), Sam Neill (New Zealand can't have him back), Hugo Weaving, Steve Irwin

Yeah, NYC's got you by about ten million, sorry to tell you. A question on that note: Does Australia have a larger police force (on all levels), than NYC, assuming that the US federal and NY State law enforcement offices and personnel in NYC go to NYC's sum total? My original question was going to be "So how come NYC doesn't have as good as submarine force as Australia?" but I decided against it. :D Thanks. Have a good one, just some thoughts....

I couldn't find the total number of Australian police officers on the net. As each of the 7 states and territories have their own website and they don't always have the numbers posted there.
On the NSW Police site, the figure is close to 15,000 (NSW being the most populous Australian state). This figure surprises me since I can hardly see any uniformed officers on the beat in Sydney.

Quite franky Australia just kicks everyones ass when it comes to GDP per head. One of the highest in the world.

Some of the best movies are made in Australia but their soaps suck I asked an Aussie why the movies were good and he told me that many of them are government supported and they do not give tax breaks for **** films, the scripts go before the film board and they decide whether it gets funding I suppose its an incentive to knock out a decent movie. I am sure some of you Aussies can expand on this one.
That's all very good, let me clarify a couple of things, wheatabix is British and Vegemite even from its name and shape of the jar you can tell it's a cheap rip off of Marmite (which is actually a word, unlike vegi****e).

Why is corona so expensive in Australia?
Excellent question bunniez. I fear i it is associated with our taxes, and primarily import.
Like everything else, it has to be purchased overseas, then shipped to a importer here, and then sold on. With each person putting a markup on, and then paying for shipping, the costs end up at $48 Australian a carton. I can buy the best Australian beer, Carlton Crown, for the same price.
This $48 equates to around $40 odd dollars US.

This is also a good question. I fear it is a combination of the fact that he is a ex underworld hitman, has spent time in jail, and has not run for prime minister.
Although i suspect people would vote for him for the "funny" factor, or preselection with the polictical parties makes it impossible for him to be PM, unless he joins one of the two major parties, ALA, peter garret of midnight oil.

Read was born to an ex-army (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Army) father and a mother who was a devout Seventh-day Adventist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seventh-day_Adventist_Church). He was placed in a children's home for the first five years of his life. Read grew up in the Melbourne suburbs of Collingwood (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collingwood%2C_Victoria), Thomastown (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomastown%2C_Victoria), Fitzroy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fitzroy%2C_Victoria) and Preston (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preston%2C_Victoria). He was bullied at school, claiming that by the age of 15 he had been on the "losing end of several hundred fights" and his father, usually on his mother's recommendation, beat him often as a child. Read was made a Ward of the State (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ward_%28legal%29) by the age of 14, and was placed in several mental institutions (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mental_institution) as a teenager, where, he later claimed, he was subjected to electroshock therapy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electroconvulsive_therapy). [1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Brandon_Read#cite_note-0)
By his mid-teens, Read was already an accomplished street fighter, and the leader of the Surrey Road gang. He began his criminal career by robbing drug dealers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drug_dealer), based in massage parlours in the Prahran area. He later graduated to kidnapping and torturing members of the criminal underworld, often using a blowtorch or bolt cutters to remove the toes of his victims before killing them (Hence the slang term "Toecutter", used for Headhunters).[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Brandon_Read#cite_note-1)
He is also a best selling author

The term used as far i can work out in virginia is grill.
Shrips are like a freshwater prawn.
The real lingo should be, through another prawn on the barby.
As we are all too lazy to cook on a stove/oven, we cook on the bbq, that way the social norm of drinking beer can be applied to every breakfast lunch and dinner.

Emu eggs have been used for omlettes, on the upsides, you only need one or two for a big group of people.
The drumstick idea is great, but only americans have domestic ovens that big.

In short yes. We have both pure bred dingoes, and cross breeds. The cross breeds tend to be the most problematic, however, a number of people have been killed by them over the years. The ones i have seen in the wild normally run the other way.

See my comment regarding Tasmania.
A little understood fact is that Australia is at the TOP of the world.
By convention, from those pommy imperialists who sent my great-great-great grandad here for 'borrowing' a loaf of bread...maps are drawn with a north-point and hemispheres.
However when viewing the earth from space, it is quite clear that this mapping is just a convention and that Australia dominates the top of the globe.

A walkabout is what aboriginals do at certain times. Typically walkabout means they leave the area where they live and dissapear for a while. Like a mini pilgrimage.
When Aboriginal Australians Go on Walkabout, they undertake a spiritual journey to a Belonging Place to renew their relationship with their Dreaming and the Landscape. The land is their life, their mother, their way, their nourishment, and their spiritual connectedness. Not quite but you get the point.

Import Fact:
His academic achievements were possibly outweighed by the notoriety he achieved as the holder of a world record for the fastest consumption of beer: a yard glass (approximately 3 imperial pints or 1.7 litres) in eleven seconds.[2][3] In his memoirs, Hawke suggested that this single feat may have contributed to his political success more than any other, by endearing him to a voting population with a strong beer culture.

Below is some famous and not so famous Australian Sayings. It was put out as a comedy track by a local comedian.
This is posted for comment and to see if anyone can pick the Australian colloquialisms.
AUSTRALIANA
Sittin' at home last Sunday mornin' me mate Boomer rang. Said he was havin' a few people around for a barbie. Said he might Cook a burra or two.
I said, "Sounds great, will Walla be there?"
He said "Yeah and Vegie might come too".
So I said to the wife "Do you wanna go Anna?". She said "I'll go if Ding goes".
So I said to Boomer "What'll we do about Nulla?"
He said "Nulla bores me to tears, leave him at home."
We got to the party about two and walked straight out the kitchen to put some booze in the fridge. And you wouldn't believe it, there's Boomer's wife Warra sittin there tryin to plait her puss!
Now, I don't like to speak ill o' Warra, but I was shocked, I mean how much can a Koala bare.
So I grabbed a beer, flashed me wanga at her and went out and joined the party.
Pretty soon Ayers rocks in and things really started jumpin'. This Indian girl, Marsu, turns up, dying to go to the toilet but she couldn't find it. I said to me mate Al, "Hey, where can Marsu pee Al?" He said "She can go outback with the fellas, she's probably seen a **** or too".
Well just then Warra comes out of the kitchen with a few drinks for everybody. Fairdinkum, you've never seen a cooler bar maid. I grabbed a beer and said, "Thanks Warra - tah".
A couple of Queenslanders at the party, one smellin' pretty strongly of aftershave. He sat down next to me and I turned to him and I said, "Ya know mate, You reek o' Stockade!"
It was a really hot day; Oscar felt like a swim. He said to Ina, "Do you want a have a dip in the river Ina?" She said "I haven't got my cossie Oscar".
Well Bo says, "Come in starkers, what'll 'ey care!"
Ina says "What, without so much as a thread Bo?" Ah, perish 'er thought! Has Eucum been in yet?
Well a few of the blokes decided to play some cricket. Boomer says "Why doesn't Wom bat?" "Yeah, and let Tenter field".
He said I should have a bowl but I was too out of it to play cricket so I suggested a game of cards. I said to Lyptus "Wanna game of Euca Lyptus?" He said "There's no point mate, Dah wins everytime."
Well Bill said he'd like a smoke. Nobody knew where the dope was stashed. I said "I think Maree knows." But I was just spinning a bit of a yarn. Barry pulls a joint out of his pocket. Bill says "Great, Barry, a reefer. What is it mate?" "Noosa Heads of course. Me mate Ada laid 'em on me." And it was a great joint too, blew Mountains away and his three sisters.
Well I thought I'd roll one meself, I said "Chuck us the Tally Ho Bart". He said "They're out on the Lawn, Ceston, can you get em for us?" Burnie says "It's okay mate, she's apples, I'll get em for ya"
Just then Alice springs into action, starts to pack Bill a bong. And you wouldn't believe it, the bongs broken. I said "Lord, How?" "Hay-man" somebody said "Will a Didgeridoo?" I said "Hummmmm mummmm mummmmm mummmmm maybe it'll have ta."
I look in the corner and there's Bass sittin there, not getting into it, not getting out of it, I said "What, is Bass straight or somthin?" Boomer said "As a matter a fact mate, he's a cop" I said "Ya jokin mate, a cop, I'm getting outta here, let's go Anna." She said "No way, I'm hangin round till Gum leaves. Besides, I don't wanna leave Jack around a party on his own. Have you seen him? I think he's trying to crack on to Woomba, he's already tried to mount Isa And he'll definitely try to lead you astray Liana!"

Yes, we wear those hats so we can sell them to tourists. The best cork as with anything an australian acquires, is the free one.
They work very effectively on the flying death adders and hoop snakes, but offer very little protection against drop bears. In fact we reccomend that they not be used for drop bears.

Anzac day is 25 April. Remembrance day is celebrated but no public holiday. On anzac day we have a public holiday and everything stops. In most towns they have marches where veterans of any conflict or ex servicemen march, while the rest of us watch them march. We then attend services commerating the sacrifices that people made. These are some photos i took in my town this year. It is a great day for many reasons.

Please delete that from my serious thread p-)
is the spider problem as bad as they say?
The spiders are as poisonous as they say, and are very very common. Death is related to getting bitten by them.

I will go outside and check. Green does work well as they can hid in the bush with the trees.

Wolf Creek is set in a real location; however, the actual meteorite crater location is called "Wolfe Creek (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfe_Creek_crater)", and is located in northern Western Australia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Australia). from wiki

Our farm for start. If you are really a twitcher, i have some newsletters etc that you will find interesting, along with a species list.
Lots of good spots about, depends on what species you are after. There are around 200 within a few hours of brisbane as a start.

Myself, I would start on the Gold Coast strip
there we have the pink tittied beach chick, often seen in their full plumage during the summer months.
they are also known to inhabit the southern states especially around Sydney and Bondie.

Did you know that there's a breed of eucalyptus tree in Israel that doesn't exist in Australia? And it was not engineered by humans, purely natural breed that was discovered by chance lately.
It'd have to be a hybrid that came about over there from cross-pollination. All but one species of eucalyptus is native to Australia, and the one that isn't, is native to New Guinea and the Philippines.

Aha, i like you JJB, Mr T3ngu is great, just like being in court again.
We regard emu farms at the same level as ostrich farms here in Australia. Perhaps also along the lines of deer farms. The business model is there, but the demand is not.
That is, i think it is a bit of a waste of time.
However, there is one emu farmer at a place called Marburg in Queensland who does very well for himself financially.
I guess, good luck to you, but all ostrich farmers i know here went to the wall as their animals depreciated in value from day one thus the transition of emu to the US is along a similar line.
However, it would be unaustralian not to put all of your life saving is a "too good to be true" venture and lose it all.

I personally wouldn't touch it - I don't like its smell. A lot of it ends up as dog food over here, to be honest and that's how it's associated.
Still, some of it is marketed as a gourmet food.
