It might be good at a party, but oftentimes employers judge your command of english by your ****unciation. :(

I usually adapt my accent according to the required situation. A Ruskie one might be a challenge to lose though.

An easier solution is to kidnap potential employers family members and then commit some blackmail.

A toe usually fetches $10,000.

Btw, I heard somewhere that after 11 years old (which is exactly how old I was upon arriving here) its impossible to loose your accent since your brain has matured too much or something.
Any truth to that?

If I get really engrossed in some conversation and thus start talking real fast, my New York/Long Island accent tends to come out. Never even noticed it until I moved away.

I talk like an Englishman which is very odd when you consider the fact that I was born in England and have lived here for twenty five years.

What's the difference between a New Zealand and an Australian accent?

It's too bad that you want to get rid of your accent, Russian ones are very nice. Accents bring some spice into life. But if it's just for work... :)

Yeah, its pretty difficult to find a job as a representative of some sort (telemarketer for example  ) with an accent.

My accent really shows when I'm nervous and/or drunk, but I'm fine other than that. Viktorin thinks I have a little southern accent :|

RA, my mother-in-law had the same problem (Spanish accent) because when they moved to the states she tended to speak mostly to other latinos (they live in Miami so it's not hard to do).

If you spend most of your time talking with your family or other Russian-accented people it won't help, you have to get out and converse more with others. Try chatting with waiters/waitresses when you go out to eat or talk to sales people in stores, etc. It won't go away immediately, but eventually you'll lose the majority of your accent. Another idea is to recite back things you hear people say on TV, though people may think you're crazy for talking to the TV!!.
