I was just wondering what is the best silencer for the money to buy for a DPMS AR-15 carbine. If you guys could shed some light or input would be great.
Cheers
A 2 liter bottle with gun tape. It worked on Under Siege.

You can also try these companies, they all make superb Suppressors:
Ops Inc (http://opsinc.us/category.php?catId=223)
Advanced Armament (http://www.advanced-armament.com/silencers.asp)
SureFire (http://www.surefire.com/maxexp/main/co_disp/displ/pgrfnbr/517/sesent/00)
Knight Armament (http://www.knightarmco.com/m4_m16_suppressor.html)
Hope this helps...
Cheers.
i've recently played with the new surefire silencer and liked it very much. lightweight and no shift in zero. nifty flash hider/muzzle break attachment too.

I'm not buying this Surefire marketing about no shift in zero. Did you have personally time to verify it? It should be basically impossible since any weight added to the barrel of gun will cause shift.

SDet21, well I hope you live in a free state where you can legally own a suppressor and have a lot of $'s. There are taxes to pay and they're expensive for the AR-15 platform. That said, the US M4's use the Knights Armament quick detach suppressor and the Ops Inc. for the MK 12 system. Surefire has a line that has been successful too. And if you can't legally own a suppressor or find that its too expensive, Spike's Tactical has some replica ones that are just for looks. Check out www.AR15.com (http://www.AR15.com) for some suppressor reviews and info. And this other site: http://www.silencertalk.com/forum/ Good luck.

(I think their company line was: "little or no shift in zero", maybe more towards the little shift.)

you make a valid point. i was shooting at 50, 75 and 100 yards. i was shooting an ar and a sig. i wasn't trying to benchrest so my best groups were averaging between 1.5 moa and 1.75 moa. based on those conditions i was unable to discern any noticeable shift. the .25 variance could have been me, the hot barrel, the wind or a hundred other variables.
next time i'll try and get a .223/5.56 bolt gun and take it out a but further. by using a gun that shoots .5 moa you'd tighten up the variables and any foreign factors would become glaring.
i feel comfortable saying that based on my limited experience, if you're shooting an ar type rifle with the kind of accuracy that normally goes along with that type of platform then the surefire can is an excellent choice that doesn't noticeably affect zero.

I did shoot few groups last weekend with my Sako (I'll post later a full report) related to my testing of a home made ACOG adapter. I shot one load with both can on and off, and with that can and that gun there was approximately 1,5MOA downward shift in POI. There was no notable difference in group size. Can is BR-suppressors TR-8 (http://www.guns.connect.fi/rs/m95graaf.html) which weighs around 0,5kg (1 pound). Barrel profile on the tested rifle is rather slim so it makes sense.
But it should happen on all rifles and all cans: how much and to what direction will depend on the rifle and the can. It may be that 1.5 MOA shift in zero is not considered much, but it may make a difference of hit or miss at longer ranges.

First guess was that these are Surefire FA556K´s but the ones on the picture are shorter and the mounting ring looks different.
any idea?

From my optic, AAC models M4-2000 and Ranger do a nice job. Whatever you end up with, the "Gas Buster" charging handle is a worthwhile investment.

PRI makes the Gas Buster Charging handle and also sell the military latch separately as an upgrade to the standard charging handle.
I use the PRI gas Buster charing handle because the rugged machine alloy constrcution which does not flex as badly as the standard cast unit when cranking on the charging handle one handed.
the GasBuster is about 95.00 each comes with either the military latch or the big latch, most of the Gas Buster you see are equipped with the military latch. Military latch sold separate are usually priced at about 30.00

just for the sake of clarity. my groups were between 1.5-1.75 moa with and without the surefire can. point of impact didn't noticeably shift in either mode.
i don't care too much about poi shift as long as its consistent and the shift is repeatable and therefore predictable. a poi shift of 1 moa is still minute of man out to 300 yards. the math only comes into play at longer range.
in my experience, cans that thread onto a barrel have the most effect on poi. collar mounted ones like the kac and ones that mount on to dedicated (proprietary) muzzle breaks/flash hiders like the excellent ops inc and the surefire appear to have the least effect on poi. i've also experienced rifles becoming more accurate with cans mounted, those cans were from kac on the sr-25/mk11, ops inc on an spr-ish and a sound technology dark star on various bolt guns.

Nice pic. Those are real steel M4's. That looks like the Surefire suppressor-FA556K, the new shorter version. I see some USAF tiger stripe BDU's in there too, but you never know. (I say they're real because there is no airsoft replica of the tan PEQ-15 yet)

Sadly "http://www.silencertalk.com/" gallery or albums are more or less down since awhile. Maybe it is me who didn't updated my account there...
But the albums are still viewable.
The only things i could find of surefire:
http://www.silencertalk.com/albums/Surefire/
Check the last few pictures.
*note you will need to check the non.sized and non.thumbs.jpg in case you didn't knew...
For all other can albums, simply remove the /Surefire/ in the link to go to the main folder. Always been a good can source site for me.
