Suicide door mod?

What do you mean?

Suicide door - is american slang for a car door that is easy to open while the vehicle is in motion, mostly used for sliding van doors... I guess the door opening towards the rear, like in the picture, could be considered "suicide door" - fling it open and jump out... But the humour still escapes me :|

Awesome pics though - thanks!!!

suicide doors are doors that open backwards...the term comes from back in the 20s and 30s when it was a popular feature on cars....when mobster would jump out to shoot they didnt have anything in front of them to protect them....

I dig the metal breasts positioned just above the crew. I guess there's some sort of Radar equipment in those things....

The bulges are just air intake covers.

sexy?

That thing is ugly as hell...But it gets the job done.

Now Cobras, and Commanches, those are sexy.

Its bad politics to argue about taste.

I agree Cobra is kind of sexy, but no way Commanche is.

Hind is the sexiest in my eyes. Second sexiest is the KA-50 Black Shark

Sexy? Military stuff should be masculine and powerfull. I don't find that sexy at all.

Military aircraft should be sexy from the rear or the side - when you see it fly by and towards the enemy :) It should be scary as all hell when seeing from head on... But them damn UB-32 pylons are still damn sexy :)

How is this different from the other Hind models?

The word "sexy" applied to an aircraft usually implies it has nice curves and rounded shape to it... traditional "sexy" aircraft are the F-14D, the B-1B, The Citation X...things of that nature.

Thinks like the Hind, The A-10, the B-52, they are more "beastly".

Night capable. This is main difference

It also has fixed undercarriage, greater missile payload, upgraded enginge and blades using technology from the Mi28....

and by greater missile payload, I mean guided missile payload, since it can carry 16 atakas or similar thingies, while the older ones had a maximum of eight

and then, the wings are shorter with one fewer hardpoint than the older ones, which result in lower max speed, but greater hovering capability.

You should be able to find something about them by reading this: http://www.aeronautics.ru/archive/vvs/mi24-01.htm

The Soviets only decided they wanted night and all weather capability after Desert Storm... and they had little or no money from then till now.

The replacement aircraft were being developed and they have jumped ahead with all the new stuff the current US helos have now... ie the Mi-28N has MMW radar and 3rd gen TI sights plus a larger warload and probably heavier armour than the current best in the west (Longbow Apache). Lack of money has resulted in all the technology designed for the Havoc being retrofitted to the Hinds inthe form of an upgrade. More powerful engines, lighter, stronger rotor blades that give more lift and manouverability, shorter wings that produce less drag yet carry more weapons, lighter fixed undercarriage that produce more drag because they cannot be retracted but reduce crash loads on vertical impacts, plus of course night vision capable cockpit displays with LCD screens and laser rangefinding and target marking systems that improve accuracy of all guided and unguided weapons plus full TI night vision for pilot and gunnner. Both Hinds and Hips are getting these upgrades, while the Mi-28N is entering service very slowly as they can be afforded.

Nice pics by the way.
