Sergei, care to explain??!! I have no idea what you are talking about....
That's ****ed up. He was convicted of war crimes after having admitted that he had killed civilians. He should have been sent away for life, or better yet hanged.

Vassili Kononov was a leader of partisan group, which entered the village of Mazie Bati. Five villagers were shot and four burned alive with their houses. One woman who perished was pregnant. Kononov says that some of the villagers helped the germans in annihilating an another soviet partisan group.
Oh, and the court ruling was a close one - 4:3. Sweden, Iceland and Latvia were against dropping charges.

The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg is a Council of Europe Organisation. It has nothing to do with the EU except being on the same subcontinent. It's decisions are theoretically binding, de facto they are not.

Countries do not vote there. They send a judge(not neccesarily from the same country) but that judge is deciding entirely on his own.

Alright then, let me correct myself :D. What the hell is wrong The European Court of Human Rights and its judges? Why do they ignore the victims?

Why? for trying to give Justice to Kononovs Victims?
-Victims of Fascist Atrocities are entitled to justice, why shouldnt victims of Communist Atrocities be entitled to same?
-What is the difference between Kononov and an Einsatzgruppen member, both are dispicable scum
-He admitted to the crimes, Latvia was trying to live up to established practices of law.

Care to explain how the Latvian government is Fascist ?
Russian newspapers say so, it must be true!!
I think modern Europe is too cowardly to attempt to give justice for the victims of communist murderers, to be quite honest.
They're just as dead whether they were killed by a Nazi or a Communist...
