There is poverty in this world and then there is POVERTY. Surely people should not have to do this!

i'm sure their climate allows for growth of some vegetables/fruits, but i don't know how agriculture is (mis)managed there.

As noted in a few of the excerpts there is food there but it is too expensive to sell. That means certain crops spoil without being sold which compounds any debt that farmers or distributors have accumulated which cascades even further. The government is going to have to cut back in some areas and start doing subsidies again including buying up some lands and turning them into state farms.

The "land disputes" thing needs to be fleshed out some more and say exactly what that entails. That could be some of the big force driving higher prices if farmland is in dispute.

The law of natural selection at work...Sad, pitiful...but it can never be denied.

Thank God every single day you have plenty to eat and a safe place to rest your head in. To have less is horror.

Logan....good insight. I think because of the Globalonogna nit-wits in congress in Washington and other governments around the world, we are going to see much, much more of this sort of thing.

Quite litterally, we are figuratively burning human beings in our engines now.
