The Jewish Internet Defense Force, a group that claims to have 5,000 members worldwide, says it is steadily removing members from a viciously anti-Israel and anti-Semitic group on Facebook, having taken control of the group. "Facebook wouldn't do anything about it so we did what had to be done," the group posted on its Web site. "We're not sure how long this can or will last, so we're fast moving to do what needs to be done."

The Jewish Internet Defense Force (JIDF) describes itself as a group of Jewish activists who fight anti-Semitism and terrorism trends throughout the Internet. It says it formed as a grassroots effort in 2000, mainly to mount mass e-mail campaigns, in response to the second intifada. It then began operating on various Web sites, including Facebook, to spread news about Israel and Jewish issues.
"As we used Facebook, we noticed many of the issues began literally to stare us in the face, as many various anti-Semitic and pro-Jihadist groups were springing up everywhere," said David, the spokesperson for the JIDF, who asked that his last name not be published. He said he had received four death threats since beginning his activities.
In the JIDF's latest efforts, the group has been working around the clock to dismantle the group on Facebook titled, "Israel is not a country! Delist it from Facebook as a country." That group had tens of thousands of members. "This was one of the most vile, most anti-Semitic, most pro-Jihad and most disgusting, and most importantly, most active hate groups on the Internet," the JIDF posted on the anti-Israel page on Facebook. "It actively promoted hatred, violence, murder and genocide. Despite tens of thousands of complaints, Facebook wouldn't remove it."

"Facebook's negligence and abdication of responsibility gave us no option but to take matters in our own hands," the JIDF added.
The JIDF would not specify what technological methods it used to gain access to thegroup, but said it succeeded in doing so after the old administrators left. "Ultimately, it was a result of our enemies' stupidity and our timing, persistence and determination more than anything else," David said

Took a look at Facebook, and, lo and behold!, the group has indeed been seized, and is losing members everytime I refresh the page.

Recent News

This group is being destroyed, thanks to John Cohen and The JIDF:

At the height of its popularity, there were:

Over 120,850 wall posts
Over 48,000 members
Over 1500 discussion topics
Over 1000 posted items
Over 150 videos
Over 100 photos

This group was one of the most vile, antisemitic, pro-terrorist sites on the internet. Moreover, it was the most active hate group of all, heartily promoting hatred, murder, and genocide while proliferating abominable propaganda paralleled only by the fables of Goebbels. While such content clearly violates Facebook's own Terms of Use and Code of Conduct, provisions that users agree to abide when they register on the site, Facebook refused to take action. Despite thousands of user complaints over the course of eighteen months, Facebook allowed this group and its ubiquitous antisemitic lies to flourish. Facebook's own negligence and abdication of responsibility gave us no option but to take matters in our own hands.

We wish to be clear – we have no issues with legitimate political discourse so long as it is contextual, comparative and truthful. However, when it comes to encouraging the murder of Jews and purposefully disseminating misinformation to demonize Jews and to delegitimize Israel, there is a moral obligation to remove the platform of such repugnant hate-mongers. Unfortunately, we do not need to search too far back into history to realize that such evils have a real cost in terms of human lives.

Nice work. wootwootwoot

Link not working...

As for the internet: Does this count as a "teabag" for the JIDF on the forces of evil?

Maybe Facebook will take notice now and do something about it - like hopefully shut down any new iterations of it.

IMHO - there needs to be far more knockdowns, takedowns, wipe outs of internet jihadi activity. The only converse of this is that the intelligence guys get some really good intel from them, and have actually told hackers to 'knock it off' because they were disrupting this intel flow by messing with them.

Brilliant!

But from what I gather, the admin left the group so they were able to become the new admin. Kinda like being the first to pass by that wanted to click the link.

Very valid concern. I think these sort of groups should focus on attacking propaganda sites run by wannabes like this facebook group and leave the bona fide terrorist sites alone.

I disapprove of many harmful and undesirable websites and often wonder why some sites arent removed. That said, I'll be the first to point out the dangers associated with vigilante groups doing so; it can be a slippery, slippery slope when one group begins to forcibly silence another or remove the things they write.

Do I think more and more content that is less and less objectionable to non-Jews is likely to be forcibly removed? No.
Could it happen? Of course.

There really needs to be an UN Internet Police force. The disjointed way in which it is monitored at the moment means that in many countries, anything goes. Illegal ****, terrorist sites, phishing sites, e-fraud all should be smashed and not permitted access to the web. To a lesser extent hate sites, if they are hosted in the USA, they have freedom of speech rights - even bad hate speech mostly. I normally believe in freedom of speech - but websites that assist to plot the destruction of the west should be binned.

There is no in-between if things you find intolerable are never-the-less legal. Sorry, but I don't think you know what 'free speech' means.

Despite being 'non-Jihadi', I feel encroached upon. Screw them and their resounding success. I can't help but translate as nothing less than theft/censorship from/of the WWW.

What about websites that assist to plot the destruction of the east or south?

If you think that preventing the use of the internet to recruit suicide bombers, disseminate jihad, and move terrorist money is undesirable because it is being a 'nanny state', then....there really is no helping you.

I'm not sure I'd support a UN Dog poop pickup squad at this poijt in time. Maybe we should nominate MP.net to be the Grand Vizier Internet Overseer.

Definitely not a fan of the UN doing internet police. It would stink too much of the chinese censored version in no time. I think I would much rather nations started putting some real money into their own internet police/intelligence groups and be able to share info easily so that local authorities can do what the law dictates. Too many laws would get stomped on by an "international" force.

Just make it a division of Interpol then - I don't mind either way as long as its international in character.

Why not to simply keep the internet free? I've yet to see much harm done through the internet because people shared their ideologies (as wicked as they may be).
I don't mind all kind of people fighting each other by taking down internet sites or closing Facebook groups.

We need more groups like these, the amount of Islamic filthy I see on websites (especially youtube) is revolting.
