I believe that's the tank commander, by the looks of it he is relaying something to his driver.

On this shot, the gunners hatch is on the left side, so the one shot above is the Commanders Hatch, his 360' view port can't be seen though.

The gunner sits infront of the commander to the right of the breech so I can't see how that is above him, unless you meant the loader?

The gunner sits in front of the commander and when everything else fails there is the foot communicator. Meaning the gunner takes a kick in his back from his tank commander to open fire. Been there done that. p-)

No, once upon a time a TC in a M48A5. With a mechanical computer to calculate gun elevation and image coincidence range finders :) . But also it has its pros. Unlimited ammo to practice with. Even the doctors got half a dozen of rounds to fire.
