I have a general question. How does everyone come up with their usernames? Some of the names on here are pretty cool. Any stories behind 'em? If plausible deniability is a reason, don't worry about replying. I know that my name is the call sign for the main character of a book I'm writing. How about you guys?
Alleycat

Mine has been my nickname and SN for multiplayer games for a while now. My name is Alex and my friends say I have cat like reflexes.
Ryan94

My name come from the icehockey player Ryan Smyth of the Edmonton Oilers. He wears the number 94 on his jersey, and so i decide to use the name "Ryan94"...

Kitsune
02-02-2003, 09:09 PM
"Kitsune" is japanese and means fox. (To call myself such is wishful thinking). To answer the next question... i'm not japanese. I'm just inteseted in japanese culture and history and so came up with this name... I thought as nick it's as good as any.
FallenAngel
02-02-2003, 09:27 PM
I like the paradoxial feel with mine. Angels are pure goodness and such...so a Fallen Angel isn't technically an Angel...it evokes a badass mental pic from most people.
That plus alot of people I know think I'm this perfect little Catholic School Boy (yes, i'm catholic and i got to a catholic high school) ...but sometime's I can be a real hell-raiser ;)
Chris

normally my name on the internet is VIPER. I have this name for about ten years now, before i even knew that there is something called "internet" out there. Used this name in every computer game. I changed to Chris in some forums, because my first name is Christoph. Got sick of using VIPER after i quit playing airsoft
Minjin
02-03-2003, 01:17 PM
Minjin is an Australian aboriginal legend. It is a great hunting cat that steals people away and eats them, stringing their remains through treetops. That is the gory side. The Aboriginals see it as a hunting spirit, and a noble (and feared) creature.
Ryan94, are you from Edmonton? I happen to be, hence the question. ;)

02-03-2003, 01:19 PM
No, i´m from Germany... but it would be real great if i would come from Edmonton ;)

My name, JockularFiasco, is derived from the athletic prowess I once had. How reaked havoc on opposing teams in basketball & football.

Adam Wilhelm

Sweden don´t use Alpha, Bravo, Charlie...,
instead we use Adam for A, Bertil for Bravo... you get the picture.
My callsign as a Platoon leader is Adam Wilhelm (Alpha Whiskey). :P

02-06-2003, 06:55 PM
That's pretty cool! Are you from Sweden?

Hello! :D I saw this topic, and I thought I'd use it to introduce myself using this topic.
My name is Jason Anderson, I'm 17 (18 on May 31), and I'm VERY interested in the military, I've been into it since I was about 7 or so. I'd go join in a heartbeat, but due to the fact that I'm hard of hearing, I can't  I even went to the USMC Recruiting office and asked if I could join, and I couldn’t. Nearly cried on the spot.
The story of my handle... I was out with my friends, just hanging out and I was doing and saying funny stuff, when someone said, "Man Jason! You're a hoot!" And since my fave character in BHD was Hoot, I said, "Hey! That'd be a cool nickname!" And that's how I got it.
Well, I look forward to reading your posts in the future! Have a good 'un!

Little OT now but what the...
Yes i´m from Sweden, never travelled anywhere but a trip in Europe in -92 and Bosnia-Hercegovina 93-94.
I´m not in the regular army but in the Hemvärn ( your eq. to the National Guard).
I served in Norrlands Dragonregemente (Norrlands Dragoonregement) which train rangers and our speciality is arctic training.
During summer:

My real name iz Ziv (hebrew for "sunshine" or "sun warmth"), and the nickname has two meaning in hebrew - it's poison ivy,and also it's my army unit's name (back in the days of my regular service) - it's initials for "southern command recon". when i figure out how to upload photos here, i will post some.

Adam, that's really cool. Are you all using FN FALs? I don't know too much about them, about all I know is that they're made in Belgium, and in the same family as the FN CAL. Are they very reliable? Any problems? Just asking for research...
sarhawk, you're just leading me on. And if you are hiding something, it's really important and you're scared that I'll find out. Even though I was informed about some VERY important information last night, I can still break you. :fork:
Sirpad, I'm going to make a stupid guess and say you're from Israel. What unit did you serve in? Where did you see action if any? Just for research...
sarhawk
02-08-2003, 01:30 AM
maybe you WILL find out, and maybe you wont find out. i dont know. well actually, it really depends on if you're nice to me or not. and you never really are, so i dont think you'll find out. soooooo how about you just tell me what you know and ill tell you what i know, you know trading information. ;) (alot of knows) come on now, tell me please?????
OzMan
02-08-2003, 01:35 AM
No, no, no. That's not how I work. You're asking two things from me: 1. to be nice and 2. to give you sworn information? I don't think so. Only one-for-one deals with me. You should know that. And do you really want to get into this whole "you're being mean" debate again? Did you already forget about Salina? :bash:
sarhawk
02-08-2003, 01:25 PM
yes i remember salina, and no i dont want to get into that again.

Yes - i'm from israel. I served in one of the MP's recon platoons, stationed in the gaza stripp region. Been there 95-98, which was a generaly quiet time - did'nt see too much "special" work, but still we had some good "products" going for a while.

Nicknames? I think everyone should put thier first/last name... It COULD NOT be more simple than that
Light Fighter

Easy, the military phonetic alphabet for the initial of my middle name (plus, I just think Delta sounds cool)

Eagle: It´s not the FAL, it´s the FNC.
I think that you thought it was a FAl beacuase of the long barrel.
But the barrel is only long beacuase of a blank firing atachment
The Ak 5, which is known in Sweden, is a very reliable weapon.
But the worst drawbak is the weight.
It weighs 4,5 Kg loaded.
Other than that it´s just fine.

Yes Jason, we all remember Salina and really do NOT want to go into that again. Just tell us what you found out. More than likely it's something we already know. Just think about it... p-)

No, absolutely not. You haven't even said that you have information to give back to me in exchange. So, no. And even IF you did, my information can't be given out. But there may be other things I can tell.
sarhawk
02-10-2003, 11:09 PM
i DO have information to give you. also... i have something i need to give you next time i see you. tuesday night most likely. anyways.. other information???? i think i MAY have to make a phone call. what do you think kate?? hmmmmm....
OzMan
02-12-2003, 02:32 PM
Ok, its Wednesday. Problem for you: You didn't tell me something I didn't already know last night. So no exchange. Maybe if you give me something else. And I'm talking information so don't try and pull that picture you gave me as leverage. Information for information. p-)
And you haven't called yet...

oh, she will call eventually. this i know.... guys, we really need to stop clogging up these message boards with our conversations. E-mail works. Don't ya think?
OzMan
02-12-2003, 06:46 PM
I don't have e-mail of my own. I have to switch users on my computer and wait, and wade through all of the crap on the other page, etc., etc., etc. And I'm on this site just about every day, so this is MUCH quicker. :backhand:

Ratamacue
02-13-2003, 11:21 PM
Pretty simple how my username came about. I play percussion in band, and last year in 8th grade, my band teacher always bitched about how bad my ratamacues were (a ratamacue is a drum rudiment often played in band pieces.

I made mine up when i had to have a name in a tank game i was playing. I enjoyed piloting the KV-1S "Skorostnoy", so I put that as my name. A few years ago, when i first cared to look, I realised that I had misspelled "Skorostnoy" (which means fast, or quick, in Russian).
Overall, I like Russian stuff. I am an American, (a proud defender of America) and i don't speak Russian, but I understand a little of it, and I would like to learn it. I speak German, although not fluently. But overall, i enjoy Russian music, especially the Red Army Choir, and even though the pictures I see of loads of Russians rushing an enemy, I still like them.
I currently run an airsoft based wargame club here in Southern California. I am looking into changing the name. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Something Russian or American... p-)

MrSkorotsnoy, then you really should check this out; http://www.leninimports.com/leningradtbs.html
A Finnish band called Leningrad Cowboys made a concert with the Red Army Ensemble called :Total Balalaika.
This is just unbelivable. I saw the movie some years ago, and,... Just get it!!!

Excellent catch, Ich Habe! Sehr Gut! By any chance, do you have any Red Army Choir CD's? I had one by a company called Naxos, but it was stolen at school (or misplaced here), and i was wondering if you knew any places where i could order one
Thanks for the help! p-)
