I am looking for information when Americans acquired the first AK-47 assault rifle (or rifles) and where the AKs came from? I read about some test of the Soviet gun in Aberdeen in 1950s, but I cannot find any date or document (summary) of testing. It should not be a classified materials today.

It may have been taken just before the East and West turned against each other. I take it was the late 1940s.

But it was just getting into service in 1949, and large numbers were not around until about 1956. So the AKs were probably stolen for intel purposes, or possibly maybe an underhanded deal with one of the Warsaw Pact nations less loyal to the Kremlin.
