Does anyone know how many French military personel has been killed from hostile fire since 1962? Also where and when, like was it in Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and if possible, which unit/regiment.
Looking forward hearing from all, thanks.

That would be a difficult to know exactly especially since we would have to separate the deaths in operations by those killed by accidents related or not to the enemy.
As an example: S/C Panic from 6 REG killed in Chad (1987 or 88) when a mine (put there by nobody knows) exploded under his truck (VLRA). In reality the spare wheel was blown up in the air and hit him on the way down. Hostile fire or not???
French exterior operations since 1962 have almost exclusively taken place in Africa.
Excepted Cambodia 1993, GW 1 in 1991, and the Balkans in 1990’s (maybe I am missing some).
There have been many operations in Africa since 1962, mainly in Chad, CAR, Zaire, Rwanda, Congo, and lately in Ivory Coast.
However a wild guess of losses since 1962 (just by experience and without documentation) would be somewhere between 250 and 500 deaths.
In addition there will be the French Grendarmerie Nationale (French police managed by the ministry of defense), that obviously have many losses both in France and everywhere in the world where France in present.
Not exact numbers just estimations.

There is also all operators from the SDECE/DGSE from the SA who die in covert combat operation ( some fall in Lybia during the war between Chad/France and Lybia but but nobody knows their existence, officially they die in training mission).

shot in the dark here, but an e-mail to the French ministry of defence should probably help you out? Not sure if the French govt is totally forthcoming with all info but I'm sure you'd get a starting point.
