I did a little research into the status of the navy's flattops in 1963 and came up with 25 of various types. However, when I cross-checked it with Naval Historical Center (http://www.history.navy.mil/branches/org9-4.htm#1958) website they have it listed as 24. Now, obviously I'm wrong, so which one of these flattops wasn't active in 1963?

My computer is not liking that website you left a link. It never has..It just won't load past the first table..

I checked and all those carriers you listed were indeed in commision in 1963. Maybe the historical society is counting them like this;

24 CVAs & CVSs
1 CVAN

Just guessing.

Intresting that two of those ships are still in comission. Kitty Hawk & Enterprise. Amazing.
