I've searched Google to no avail for information on this subject, so I pose this question to MP.net: from 1983 to 1991 did any female sailors serve aboard either of the four Iowa class battleships?

No enlisted females on combat vessels was official US Navy policy until "Love boat" WestPac in mid 90's. http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/images/icons/icon7.gif

Don't know:roll: But Yahoo & Goggle do! Google is your friend!
The combat exclusion was lifted in April 1993 and women were finally allowed to compete for pilot training and aircraft assignment on the same footing as men. The initial cadre consisted of a group of women who had already earned their wings. They were given the option to transition to fighters based on three things 1) they had graduated high enough in their class where a fighter would have been available to them 2) they were not currently already flying in a major weapons system 3) their current squadron commander recommended them.
There were some female COD pilots as early as '81..
Don't know what a COD is?? It stands for Carrier Onboard Delivery. As in a C-2 or a C-1. C-1 were from back in da' day.

and C-2's are for those of us that didn't serve with John Paul Jones.:)
the C-2's proper name is "Greyhound", btw. and they're the softest-landing aircraft on the deck.
